Thoughts from your host…
It’s been an odd spring for the podcast. On the one hand, there were films like PERSONAL SHOPPER that I wanted to talk about, but hadn’t received a wide release yet. On the other hand, there were films like this week’s selection that were released all over the world before they got to me in Toronto…and yet arranging an episode for it proved tricky!
I guess what I’m saying is that it’s times like this that I’m thankful for whatever listenership I still have left.
It’s also times like this that I’m thankful for the intelligent guests that drop by the show and the energy they bring…especially today’s guest. If I was smart, I’d get her on more often.
Thanks for tuning into episode one-hundred-seventy-four.

Thoughts from your host…
When the recording for Matineecast 173 concluded, and I walked back into my apartment, The Missus gave me a curious look.
“You’re done…already?? Are you and Kurt mad at each-other or something?…”
Now that I’ve locked the episode, I realize what she was talking about. After all, my guest has such a gift of gab, that he once held the record for the lengthiest single-guest episode of the podcast. But no, Kurt and I were not cross with each other, instead we happened to agree for once. Sometimes, while that can lead to less drama, it can likewise lead to a more succinct episode.
So while I realize many of you haven’t seen this film just yet, I do hope you’ll tune-in and allow us to whet your appetite.
If not, perhaps you’ll tune in and mull over Mister Halfyard’s answers to the rarely-posed fifth round of Know Your Enemy.
Thanks for tuning into episode one-hundred-seventy-three.

Once in a while, you have a bad game.
After a long stretch of shows without any particularly bad technical problems, the gremlins were in fine form for number one-seventy-two folks. So, apologies in advance for a truncated episode.
It’s a pity too since as this show went along my guest actually talked me into the virtues of this movie a little more than I was apt to appreciate when we began! You’ll hear me mention it more than once as I try to tie the threads of this show together, but I’ll say it again here:
I’m looking forward to getting my guest back on the show…and especially so now in the hopes that she talks up the virtues of another film!
Thanks for tuning into episode one-hundred-seventy-two.

Thoughts from your host…
It’s been a while since I’ve come up with a new segment on this show, but once every fifty episode or so, something hits me.
So in lieu of getting to know a little bit more about a frequent guest, I thought I’d give him a chance to rake me over the coals and take me to task on ways we disagree.
Meanwhile, I sit here and sincerely wonder what film we will talk about next, since the studios more or less abandoned February altogether. Basically, if you have any suggestions for the next episode, I’m all ears.
In the meantime, allow us to clock in a brief episode about one of the very best films of 2016.

1. Introduction
Thoughts from your host…
The thoughts you hear in this episode were recorded less that 48 hours ago as of press time. Back then, America was only beginning to protest at its airports, the Producers’ Guild hadn’t tapped LA LA LAND as its top dog of 2016, SAG hadn’t handed the same honour to HIDDEN FIGURES, and at the same event the surprise wins of Emma Stone and Denzel Washington hadn’t happened either.
So much can change in such a short time…
So for instance, when you hear Marya and I wondering if Casey Affleck’s misbehaviour might have caught up with him, that now seems like more of a possibility. Ditto when you hear us wondering about the possibilities that someone sneak in and steal the thunder from Isabelle Huppert. That too now seems possible.
Say it with me: So much can change in such a short time!
This is a lengthy one folks. I’ll do what I can to lock 171 in an hour or less.
Thanks for tuning into episode one-hundred-seventy.
