    Thoughts from your host…

It’s Thanksgiving Day here in Canada, and I couldn’t be a more thankful podcaster.

For starters, I’m thankful that I have made such amazing friends through this teeny blog and podcast that I can drop a dime with just a few days’ notice and score such a wonderful show from it.

I’m thankful for having such a supportive wife that I can take time to myself on a holiday weekend with headphones covering my ears, feverishly trying to get a podcast finished.

I’m thankful that my favorite baseball team is once again rewarding its faithful fans with an exciting playoff run. This show probably would have hit the feed an hour ago were it not for their late inning dramatics.

I’m thankful for my upcoming vacation and the adventures it is sure to provide Lindsay and I. Over the last few days, I have really started to feel just how much I need the upcoming time off.

I’m thankful for the film-loving city I live in, and how much material it gives me to keep this space going and still get off my couch.

And without a doubt – I’m thankful for you, dear listener, and the quiet encouragement you give little ‘ol me.

    Happy Thanksgiving…

…And thanks for tuning into episode one-hundred-sixty-five.

    Thoughts from your host…

The first show back after TIFF is always brutal. It was especially tough this year thanks to an earlier-than-usual bout of “The TIFF SARS”. I’ve come to expect my body to betray me around this time of year (go back and listen to the SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS episode for an especially nasty sounding host), but not normally mid-fest.

A few more days than normal to recover and we’re right back on the podcasting horse…just in time to get back off in a few weeks. But more on that later.

This week, rather than reach for something new, we went back a month or two for a film that is slowly starting to arrive on-demand. The reason, besides not really wanting to wast our breath on SNOWDEN, SULLY, or THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, was because the film we have dedicated this episode to is just the sort of gem that keeps my interest up in this sea of franchises and superheroes.

It’s the fresh bottled water that goes so nicely with the gooey chocolate.

So allow us to go back a month or so into the wilds of New Zealand, and wonder what might be coming when we finally venture to Ragnarok.

Thanks for tuning into episode one-hundred-sixty-four.

No rest for the wicked. Just one day after our first festival postcard, we turn the mic on again and give you more action on the scene from the 41st annual Toronto International Film Festival

This time, as Jess Rogers and I get stoked to see BUSTER’S MAL HEART, we reminisce about line culture, the nature of seeing Netflix selections on a big screen, and just how much is “too much”

Last night I kept the line moving over dinner with a dear friend who has returned to TIFF for her second year in a row, so it’s returning forces gathering for your Monday afternoon.

Give the waiter your order and pull up a chair!

Here’s what’s in store in WLT Part Two…

    Runtime: 24 minutes

Films mentioned in this postcard – ARQ, THE GIANT, A UNITED KINGDOM.

And we’re back! After a few weeks off thanks to a poorly placed long weekend, The Matineecast returns and gets into the swing of the 41st annual Toronto International Film Festival

Again this year, we’re choosing not to focus on just one movie for half of the episode, and instead just rapping about all sorts of titles for a moment or two…along with how our week on the whole is shaking down, and how the festival continues to evolve. As is sometimes the case when you record out in public, random people drop by and join the show (How the hell does MaMo! deal?)

Today I got things going by grabbing slice on a Sunday afternoon and making it a family affair.

Keep an eye out for incoming friends and pull up a chair!

Here’s what’s in store in WLT Part One…

    Runtime: 17 minutes

Films mentioned in this postcard – DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST, MOONLIGHT and more.
