Who are you now?
It's a question many women begin asking during menopause and midlife.
As our bodies change, relationships evolve, children grow up and priorities shift, we may find ourselves questioning who we are, what we want and whether the life we've built still reflects the woman we are today.
In this fascinating episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, The Menopause Queen, Lisa R. Triggs, is joined by @LauraHoorweg , a spiritual counsellor, intuitive coach and psychic medium, for an eye-opening conversation about finding yourself in midlife, building emotional resilience, navigating relationships and exploring the connection between spirituality, self-care and personal well-being.
Meet Laura Hoorweg
Based in Vancouver, Canada, Laura spent 30 years working in corporate advertising and marketing before an unexpected loss changed the direction of her life. Following the sudden passing of her partner, Laura navigated her own journey through grief and healing, eventually choosing to dedicate her work to helping others.
Today, through her business, Spirit Speaks to Me, Laura uses spiritual counselling, intuitive coaching and psychic mediumship to help people navigate grief, relationship challenges, major life transitions and personal growth.
What Happens When You Start Questioning Who You Are?
Menopause and midlife can bring much more than hormonal and physical changes. For many women, this phase of life also brings a shift in identity, relationships, priorities and the expectations they've spent years trying to meet.
Lisa and Laura explore why so many women spend much of their lives putting everyone else's needs ahead of their own. They discuss what happens when those familiar roles begin to change and why finding your authentic self can mean questioning beliefs, expectations and patterns you've carried for years.
Finding yourself in midlife isn't about returning to who you used to be. It's about recognizing who you are today and deciding how you want to live your life moving forward.
Whether you're navigating menopause symptoms, questioning your relationships, processing grief, exploring spirituality or searching for greater clarity and purpose, this engaging conversation offers fresh perspectives on resilience, self-love and taking ownership of your own journey.

What if menopause is affecting you in more ways than you’ve realized?
In this solo episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, I’m getting real about what menopause symptoms can actually look like and why acknowledging what’s happening in our bodies, emotions and behaviours is an important part of taking care of ourselves.
Menopause is about much more than hot flashes. Disrupted sleep, brain fog, irritability, anxiety, overwhelm, body changes and emotional outbursts can all become part of the conversation. And sometimes, we don’t make the connection.
In this episode, I talk about:
👑 Recognizing the symptoms you may not have connected to menopause
💗 How self-awareness and self-love begin with listening to what your body is telling you
🧠 Making conscious choices around stress, movement, food and other lifestyle factors that can influence how you feel
I also share some of my own struggles with stress, sugar and symptoms returning, and why I’ve learned to stop and ask myself what my body might be responding to.
Because you can’t manage symptoms you haven’t acknowledged are there.
Acknowledging is the first step, and that’s a key component of loving yourself.
That last line is especially strong because it brings the whole episode back to the Self-Love Podcast rather than leaving it as an episode purely about symptom recognition.

Menopause affects so much more than hot flashes, sleep, weight and brain fog. Changes in intimacy, pleasure and how we care for our bodies deserve a place in the conversation too.
In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, I’m joined by Heather Hiemstra, founder and formulator of Rockstar Blends and a Certified Menopause Coach. After surviving colon cancer at 37, Heather became interested in plant botanicals and the body’s endocannabinoid system. Her own journey eventually led her to develop Rockstar Woman, a botanical intimate care product created for women navigating perimenopause and menopause.
Heather and I talk openly about intimacy during menopause, the changes women can face as hormones shift, and why caring for this part of ourselves belongs in the larger conversation about self-love. We also explore Heather’s interest in plant based approaches and her belief that women deserve to know there are different options available to support themselves through this phase of life.
Three takeaways from this episode:
This conversation is a reminder that taking care of ourselves during menopause means taking care of all of ourselves, including the parts we haven’t always felt comfortable talking about.

How many times have you said yes when everything inside you wanted to say no?
Yes because you felt guilty. Yes because someone expected it. Yes because you’ve always been the person everyone can count on.
In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, I’m joined by author and speaker Paula Matthias for a conversation about boundaries, self-advocacy, and becoming more intentional about what deserves our time and energy in midlife.
Paula shares the experience that changed the way she thought about using her voice. After receiving a promotion, she walked into a boardroom and realized she was the only woman there. Instead of owning her place at the table, she made herself small and barely spoke. That moment eventually led her to examine the choices she was making in other areas of her life and to develop The Yes Test Method.
The method asks three questions before automatically saying yes:
Is it yours? Is it essential? Is it sustainable?
We talk about what happens when women spend years putting everyone else first, how overcommitting can lead to resentment, and why midlife can be an important time to start asking yourself what you actually want.
Paula also shares a powerful example of using the Yes Test to decide when to speak up in an uncomfortable situation, and we explore how fear, overthinking, boundaries, stress and self-advocacy can all influence the choices we make.
One of my favourite messages from our conversation comes near the end when Paula reminds us that we’re still becoming. Midlife isn’t the end of the story. There is still time to reinvent ourselves, pursue what matters to us, and start making intentional choices that move us toward the life we want.
Paula Matthias is the author of Speak Up and The Yes Test Method. After more than a decade working in tech, recruiting and other male-dominated professional spaces, Paula began exploring why so many women hold themselves back, struggle to advocate for themselves, or automatically put other people’s priorities ahead of their own.
Today, she speaks to women about self-advocacy, boundaries, intentional decision-making and creating their next chapter. She also works in consulting and hosts retreats designed to help women get clearer about what they want and how to move toward it.

What if one of the tools that could help you navigate the emotional side of menopause was as simple as a pencil, a piece of paper and permission to write something bad?
In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, I’m joined by therapist and author Margaret Bryden for a fascinating conversation about what she calls Bad Poetry and how writing can become an accessible form of self-expression and self-compassion.
We explore how poetry can help us slow down when our thoughts feel overwhelming, become more aware of what we’re feeling, silence the judgemental inner critic, and create space for the emotions that can surface during menopause. Margaret also explains why writing doesn’t have to be polished, profound or even traditionally poetic to be valuable.
And perhaps my favourite part of the conversation is where writing and our stories meet: when we begin making meaning from our experiences, we can start taking greater ownership of the story we tell ourselves and how we choose to move forward.
Margaret even gives us a wonderfully simple place to begin: five minutes and one question, “What am I carrying today?”
About My Guest:
Margaret Bryden is a therapist, mom and author of How I Understand It: A Bad Poet’s Guide to Mental Health and Resilience. Through her work as a therapist, Margaret began using poetry to help people increase self-awareness, work through difficult emotions and find language for experiences that can sometimes be hard to express. Her approach, which she calls Bad Poetry, is about quieting the inner critic, getting curious about what’s true for you, and giving yourself the freedom to write without judgement. Her guest form also describes Bad Poetry as an act of self-compassion.

The conversation you’re avoiding may be the one that changes everything.
How many times have we hoped things would get better on their own?
We hope someone will notice. We hope they’ll change. We hope that if we wait long enough, things will somehow work themselves out.
But sometimes the greatest act of self-love isn’t waiting. It’s finding the courage to tell yourself the truth, speak up, and have the conversation that could change the direction of your life. That’s what we’re talking about today.
In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, The Menopause Queen, Lisa R. Triggs, sits down with Marcelle LeBlanc for an honest conversation about communication, relationships, and why the conversations we avoid can sometimes be the ones we need most.
Midlife can bring greater clarity about who we are, what we want, what we value, and what we’re no longer willing to accept. Marcelle shares how learning to communicate those things clearly can help us address resentment, disappointment, disconnection, and unmet needs before years pass without anything changing.
In this episode, you’ll discover:
👑 Why avoiding difficult conversations can create greater distance in relationships
👑 How to get clear about what you actually want before starting the conversation
👑 A practical way to communicate what’s wrong, explain how it’s affecting you, and make a specific request
👑 Why midlife can bring new awareness to relationship patterns, boundaries, and values we may have carried with us for years
About Marcelle
Marcelle LeBlanc is the founder of The Conversation Architect, where she helps women develop the skills and language to have difficult conversations they’ve been avoiding. Drawing from her own experience rebuilding her life following divorce and 17 years of listening to women share their relationship struggles, Marcelle helps women get honest about what they want, communicate more clearly, and approach important conversations with greater confidence.

Women spend years caring for families, building careers, managing relationships, and taking care of everyone around them. Somewhere along the way, their own happiness, creativity, and passions can quietly move further down the list.
In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, The Menopause Queen, Lisa R. Triggs, sits down with Kenya E. Aissa, former social worker, wellness entrepreneur, author, founder of Ruby Envy Wellness, and creator of Escape to Create, to talk about what happens when women decide to put themselves back on that list.
Kenya shares why creativity, movement, mindfulness, and self-expression can help women reconnect with parts of themselves they may have lost along the way, and why choosing your own happiness and mental wellness is an important part of self-love.
In this conversation, you’ll discover:
👑 Why women can struggle to give themselves permission to prioritize their own happiness
👑 How creativity, movement, and mindfulness can help women reconnect with themselves
👑 Why returning to old passions or discovering new ones can be especially meaningful during midlife
👑 How choosing yourself can become an act of self-love rather than something to feel guilty about
Sometimes returning to joy starts with one decision: stop waiting for someone else to give you permission.

What are you still carrying that may no longer be serving you?
During menopause and midlife, old hurts can feel louder. Relationships can shift. Emotions can become heightened, and things that were once tolerated may suddenly feel impossible to ignore.
In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, The Menopause Queen, Lisa R. Triggs, is talking about what happens when we continue to carry anger, guilt, resentment, old memories, and the need for an apology or resolution we may never receive.
Because letting go doesn’t mean what happened didn’t matter. It means deciding how much of your energy you’re willing to continue giving it.
In this episode, you’ll discover:
👑 Why old hurts and unresolved emotions can feel amplified during menopause and midlife
👑 How to recognize when holding on is keeping you stuck instead of helping you heal
👑 Practical ways to begin releasing anger, guilt, and negative thoughts through writing, visualization, and shifting your perspective
👑 Why moving forward doesn’t always require an apology, explanation, or resolution from someone else
There comes a point when we get to decide what still belongs in our lives, what we’ve learned from, what we’re ready to release, and how we want to move forward from here.
Sometimes choosing yourself means finally deciding that you’re ready to let go.
