The Virgos, known as the heaviest band in Pennsylvania, are revolutionizing heavy metal. Formed by Andy Saba and Danni Crockett with drummer Eli Gerrity, they share a passion for off-roading, firearms, anti-imperialism, and Bathory's music. Frustrated by pretenders in the genre, they aim to revive authentic metal. The band committed to releasing a new studio album every year, starting with "Pennsylvania Trip" in 2023, followed by "Road to Noxen," and their third album, "Lord Have Mercy," in August 2025. This album, known for its intense and psychedelic sound, caught the attention of Season of Mist, which re-released their discography. The Virgos are recognized for their unique take on True Heavy Metal, marking a new era in the genre.

From the crucible of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's vibrant music milieu, Breakker exploded onto the scene in 2023, a heavy metal force primed to detonate. This band isn't just another act; they're a sonic Molotov cocktail waiting to be unleashed.

Breakker's sound is where raw, untamed 80s British heavy metal collides head-on with the decadent spectacle of American glam. The resulting fusion is a high-octane brew of sonic savagery and eye-popping swagger.

But the true Breakker experience resides in their live shows. Imagine a stage engulfed in flames, the air crackling with energy, and a band that moves like a well-oiled war machine. Their concerts are not merely performances; they are electrifying rituals. Miss them at your own peril!

Horizon Theory is a 5 piece Heavy Rock/Metal band that is quickly showing that they have what it takes to become a mainstay in the genre. The airtight rhythm section featuring Luen Murr on Bass produces the foundation for what will only prove to be more complex and melodic. Chris Black layers guitars that can mesmerize and enchant just as easily as they can violently blast through whatever is in the path. This all sets the stage for Josh Harrington to invoke emotion and energy from any crowd that witnesses his passionate vocal performance. With several singles racking up Millions of views and streams since 2023 as well as tours with the likes of Sevendust, 10 Years, Cold, Orgy and Smile Empty Soul, HORIZON THEORY has exploded onto the scene with energy and conviction. In 2013, THE OLD DEAD TREE reunited briefly for a mini-European tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their album The Nameless Disease. After considering reuniting permanently following the Covid-19 crisis, they decided to write a new song. Their new single, Terrified, became popular, leading to a successful comeback. In early 2024, while working on their first album in 17 years, they recorded an EP at Abbey Road Studios. The album Second Thoughts was released by the end of 2024. In spring 2025, they toured France with KLONE and completed the production of the EP London Sessions recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

Graveripper, a black thrash band from Indianapolis, returns with their heaviest album yet, "From Welkin to Tundra." Formed in 2019, they have become renowned for their dark, post-apocalyptic sound, with previous releases including the "Radiated Remains" EP and "Seasons Dreaming Death." This new album expands into darker territories, drawing on influences from both black metal and thrash, similar to bands like Immortal and Motörhead. The cover art by Adam Burke mirrors the album's bleak themes, depicting a frozen wasteland. With new members Steven Garcia on bass and Nick James on drums, Graveripper continues to deliver their fierce sound with a chilling atmosphere.

July 2020 was a crazy time for all of us. I had the chance to feature Wraith on The Metal Forge to support their EP, “Index Case: The Quarantine Sessions,” which came with a reprint of “Absolute Power.” Fast forward to the end of 2025, and the band has dropped two more albums and a bunch of other tracks. This week, as they gear up for their first gig in Louisville, Jason Schultz is joining us to chat about the band, share some life updates, and talk about what they've been up to.

As excitement builds for their return to the stage, fans are eager to hear the new material live for the first time. Jason hints at a fresh sound that blends their signature style with new influences, promising an unforgettable experience. With a dedicated fanbase and a growing discography, Wraith is poised to make a significant impact in the metal scene as they embark on this new chapter.

Courtney Gains, known for his iconic role as Malachai in Stephen King's "Children of the Corn" film adaptation, Dixon from "Back to the Future" and Hans Klopek in "The 'Burbs" starring Tom Hanks, is marking Halloween with a new heavy rock horror track, "Fear the Boogie," created in collaboration with Peruvian guitarist/producer Wal for the horror film "Barn III". Gains and Wal have collaborated before, previously contributing a song to a hurricane recovery benefit album. They plan to release a full-length album in 2026. Gains celebrated the 40th anniversary of "Children of the Corn" with horror-con appearances and a screening at the Sitges Film Festival. His recent projects include the award-winning horror film "Infernal," where Gains and his band performed live. In 2023, Gains released the critically acclaimed "Safe Haven" EP, blending rock, folk, and Americana.Official Links:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6OhfAsYjMyyAo0SEfskDVi?si=jaYHzN-WQx-UZIkT_e-A-AFB: https://www.facebook.com/people/Courtney-Gains/100063431727264/IG: https://www.instagram.com/courtney_gains_group/Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courtney_Gains @TheCourtneygains   @stephenking  Passionate about metal?
