On today’s show, we welcome Matt Twigg, senior manager and lead researcher at Fidelity Labs, based out of Tokyo. Matt joins Colin Randall, Fidelity Canada Director of Research, for an engaging discussion on the metaverse. The metaverse has captured headlines in recent months, but research shows that there are widely divergent opinions among investors about what the metaverse is, what it isn’t, as well what opportunities and challenges it may bring in the coming years. Investors have questions – social, technological, and even environmental questions. Matt is with us today to answer these questions and demystify the metaverse. Matt shares that in the next 5-10 years, VR gear will become commonplace similar to what phones are for us today. Also, the metaverse is not limited to gaming. It has become an economy and source of income for those affected by the pandemic or unable to physically work. But, technology must improve and costs decrease before a fully immersive Metaverse experience can be a consumer product.
