Mythic Mel interviews turns her attention away from Greek mythology for a moment to interview a down-to-earth, real goddess in her life: the body worker, structural integrationist and shamanic practitioner Ellen Halpern. Melinda fondly refers to Ellen as her "fascia whisperer" and has referred many a family member, aerial student and dancer to work with her. There is more to Ellen's skills than just technical prowess and experience, though - the intuition and the greater energy field guides her and Ellen often channels solutions that seem to come out of thin air. The stories she tells are as inspiring and as life changing as any myth.

Ellen Halpern is a certified structural integrator, zero balancer as well as a Shamanic practitioner. She is a graduate of Boston University with a BFA in Art Education and Art therapy. Before becoming a full time body worker, Ellen was a graphic artist and potter in Portland, Maine. She attended the Massage Institute of New England (MINE), graduating in 1990. In 1992, she was certified by Tom Myers to became a structural integrator, now called anatomy trains. Ellen has been a practitioner at Myotech Combined Therapies in Dedham MA since the 1990s and has been studying shamanism with Ann Drake for the last 3 years.

In the course of her long career, Ellen has never stopped learning and evolving. She has helped regular folks of all ages from all walks of life, and is sought after by elite athletes and runners, Boston symphony orchestra musicians, circus artists and more. We learn about how, after visiting a shamanic practitioner decades ago, Ellen Halpern discovered her life calling. Out of that one experience, she embarked on a long and satisfying career in which she has made a profound difference in the lives and well-being of countless people. She cares deeply about educating people about their bodies, about the fascia and about imbalances in their bodies so they can do work outside of sessions to empower their health and healing. Her work on clients helps them change the patterns that have kept them stuck either in pain or in their lives. When people go to Ellen they get more than "just" a massage - they get a greater understanding of their body's unique architecture and how everything connects. They learn how to make beneficial shifts in things that have felt impossible to move. Often, where we think the "problem" is, "it ain't" and Ellen can help find the root.

In this episode Ellen talks about the power of the mind/body connection and the ways she helps change patterns and clear energetic blockages. She shares tips and tools - including some of the specific homework she has given to her clients and about why it so important for us to take ownership for our healing journeys.
