Now let's take a drive across the state. Down in southern Minnesota, you're the warm kids today at 12 degrees. West winds barely whispering at 5 miles an hour. Cold, sure, but manageable. Head up to the metro and northwest winds at 10 miles an hour sharpen that 10 degrees into something meaner. Air quality's moderate too, so sensitive lungs might want to stay cozy. Keep driving north and it gets wicked. Highs only hit 14 degrees up there. Northwest gusts at 15 miles an hour make it feel like single digits. A slight chance of flurries, but nothing worth shoveling.

Tonight the real cold sneaks in. Clear skies and calm winds let temperatures plummet. Southern Minnesota drops to zero. The metro sinks to minus 2. Up north? Minus 5. Your car battery is going to hate you tomorrow morning.

Sunday's basically a carbon copy. Sunny but brutal. Highs of 12 north, 10 in the metro, 14 south. Not much changes, but that growing daylight is our little victory.

Here's your heads up for the week ahead. The deep freeze grips us through Monday. Tuesday finally brings relief as highs creep into the 20s. By Thursday we might flirt with the low 30s. Both sitting at 27 degrees. Close numbers, but here's the deal. The wind tells a different story depending on where you're.

Up north, west winds are gusting to 15 miles an hour. That's the kind of breeze that finds every gap in your zipper. There's a slight chance of light snow. Just enough to dust the roads and make your headlights look pretty. Lows tonight drop to the upper teens.

Down in the Metro, winds stay gentler. Ten to 15 miles an hour. A stray flurry might wander through, but nothing that'll slow your Friday commute home. Tonight you're dipping into the low 20s. Southern Minnesota runs a similar script. Winds around 14 miles an hour, maybe a flurry, lows in the low 20s. Quiet stuff.

Now here's what's coming your way. Saturday brings a nice little warm up. Highs climb into the mid 30s statewide. Sunday holds mild too, but a weak system could sneak in some snow showers late. Monday and Tuesday stay in the low 30s. By midweek, we might flirt with another cold snap, but nothing like that deep freeze from earlier this month. Your weekend plans are safe.
