The Misery Machine

This week, Drewby and Yergy head to North Carolina to discuss the case of Zahra Baker, a 10-year-old girl from rural Australia who came to the US after her father married a woman by the name of Elisa Fairchild... a woman he'd met on the social networking platform, IMVU. Although Zahra had beaten the cancer that caused her to lose her leg, shortly after moving across the world, she would lose her life at the hands of her evil stepmother.

This week, Drewby and Yergy head down to Florida to discuss the case of Aiden Hutchins and his half-sister, Hannah Griner. Aiden was supposed to live with his father, Nick Hutchins, here in Maine... But when his ex-wife, Brandy Hutchins, refused to turn the little boy over, Nick headed to Florida to bring his son home. However, when he arrived, Brandy and the kids were nowhere to be found. Shortly after, the Polk County Sheriff's Department received a tip that led them to a trailer where Brandy was hiding out with Aiden and Hannah in tow. However, when deputies arrived on scene, Brandy had done the unthinkable...

This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Dothan, Alabama to discuss the case of 18-year-old Jakayla Ashanti Williams, a recent high school graduate who gave birth to a baby boy in her parent's suburban home. But rather than take care of her baby or drop him off at a hospital, fire department, or a safe haven baby box.... Jakayla decided to throw him into a trash compactor.

This week, Drewby and Yergy head to the small town of Cyril, Oklahoma, to discuss the case of Athena Brownfield, an adorable 4-year-old little girl who was in the care of her mother's cousin, Alysia Galvan-Adams and her husband, Ivon. In January of 2023, a postal worker came across Athena's then 5-year-old sister, Adina, while completing her mail route. Adina was alone, and she couldn't find her little sister. When the Adam's family was finally located, there were conflicting accounts of where exactly Athena was...

This week, Drewby and Yergy head to the Ozarks to discuss the horrific story of Cassidy Rainwater, a young mother from rural Missouri who went missing during the summer of 2021 after staying with James Phelps, who was allegedly trying to help her get back on her feet. Cassidy's case could have gone cold if it weren't for an anonymous tipster who alerted the FBI to the horrors that were taking place at the Phelps cabin after discovering distressing images of Cassidy on the dark web. What happened next, including kidnapping, murder, arson, and possible cannibalism, was something straight from a horror film.

This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Milwaukee to discuss the disturbing case of Katie Koch, a young mother who, along with her boyfriend, Joel Manke, kept her two sons prisoner in their home. The boys managed to escape and ran nude down South 71st Street before a gaggle of neighbors contacted the authorities. Some onlookers described the children as looking like cavemen. However, when police entered the home, they found a scene straight out of a horror film waiting for them inside.

This week, Drewby and Yergy head back to Aurora, Colorado, to discuss the case of Maha Li Hobbs, a 5-year-old girl who lived with her mother, Alexus Nelson.  When Maha Li's grandmother, Ashiya, called in a welfare check after Alexus claimed that she rehomed the little girl, police discovered a web of lies. Sadly, Maha Li wasn't rehomed. She was dead.
