The Missing Piece in Gentle Parenting (And Why It Feels So Hard)
đNew YouTube Channelđ: @TheHeatherSchalk
"If youâre struggling with toddler tantrums and behaviors like hitting & not listening... I have a free guide for you! Itâs called The Tantrum and Behavior Guide: 7 Toddler Struggles and How to Solve Them FastâIt's HERE!
This episode explains why gentle parenting can feel harder than yelling when itâs done without enough structure.
When kids are dysregulated, language processing drops, so long explanations and collaboration during meltdowns often backfire and leave parents carrying the whole load.
The missing piece is âstructure containmentâânot punishment, but setting up the environment and clear boundaries that prevent escalation before it starts.
Examples include removing toys temporarily to stop destructive behavior, limiting access to throwables during transitions, and using a chalk circle as a visual pool boundary.
The episode also reframes regulation as being the stable nervous system in the room, not eliminating meltdowns, and argues that structure plus empathy plus leadership builds real listening without fear or endless negotiation.
