"Hard things are put in our way, not to stop us, but to call out our courage and strength.”
UNKNOWN
There is one thing that I can guarantee in life... You will be challenged.
This concept has been a constant theme on the podcast. Everything worth having in life sits on the other side of challenges. The way we respond and adjust to these challenges will greatly impact the outcome that follows.
Imagine taking that kink in your armor and turning it into your strength? How can that simple adjustment change the course of your life?
Erica Powell made the decision early in life that she wasn't going to be defined by something she couldn't control. Instead, she would go on to overcome and prosper, finding success as an entrepreneur in Greenville, SC and inspiring others as an athlete, speaker, and fitness coach.
With Erica's spirit, you know this is just the tip of the iceberg for this young woman who was diagnosed with retinoblastoma at the age of six. Progressive vision loss isn't something Erica tries to hide. A journey of reflection, perseverance, and acceptance has helped her push forward and overcoming challenges to build a promising and rewarding future.
In this episode we discuss the importance of spending time with ourselves, working on acceptance, pushing big ideas on each other, never quitting on a bad day, and so much more.
Her story is a true inspiration to all of us who are battling our own insecurities and struggling to push through and fully be ourselves. I know you'll enjoy it.

"The Price Of Greatness Is Responsibility"
Winston Churchhill
I'm slowly learning what the true meaning of responsibility is. If I'm being honest, it's so much more than I could have expected. Yet, it's acceptance is still a rewarding and empowering place to be.
As the year 2020 continues to pass us by, I'm hoping to embrace more of that responsibility in my life and also build on my capacity to handle it. As we discuss in this installment of The Modern Man, it's our duty as men to take responsibility for the world around us and the impact we have on each other's lives.
How will you represent yourself, your family, your company, your country? You can claim as little or as much of that previous list as you want. At the end of the day, your impact on the world will be felt by someone. What type of impact will that be?
This is just the tip of the iceberg when exploring what it means to embrace responsibility as men. I could not unpack this topic by myself even if I tried. As always, I needed "The Modern Man Panel" to come together and discuss the importance of embracing responsibility in our lives.
Take a listen as Tyler Harris, Charles Russ, Tim Pecoraro, Jonathan Parker and I jump headfirst into this topic.
Huge shoutout to Dr. Aaron Simmons of Furman University for coming out and sharing his wisdom on the topic! If you were unable to make the last Modern Man Live event, catch the replay here and tell us what you think!

"If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles."
Sun Tzu
Splash some water on your face and take a good long look in the mirror. Analyze that person looking back. Figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are. Use this knowledge and prepare for war.
Whether we admit it or not, there is a battle within us. Every day, we must wake up, suit up, and get after it. Some days we win, some days we lose. Yet, like the sun comes up over the horizon, we get up and fight again.
This podcast episode is focused on the person that stares back at you in the mirror. At the end of the day, it's You Vs. You.
Today's guest, Darius Rankin has been on the podcast before. In that episode, we explored the concept of self-education and growth. Darius shared his battle with depression and the challenges of working on his craft, developing his style and finding a direction in life.
This time around we focus on the enemy we all must face. Ourselves.
In this episode we explore self-talk, confidence, recognizing passion, comparing ourselves with others and much more. If you're looking to explore how you can overcome yourself and get a victory, take a listen. Here's the disclaimer though... The battle must be fought each and every day.

"If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath."
Amit Ray
Let's talk about stress...
Lord knows I'm feeling my fair share of it right now. (If you only knew!)
Regardless, we try to push forward and move on. Carrying all that around can certainly be a burden. I'm learning how to unload some of that baggage myself.
If you're feeling the pressure and wanting to relieve a bit of it, you may want to stop, breathe, and hold it. It's okay... I'll wait.
How'd that feel? Good? Yeah, I know.
If you're looking to release some stress, today's guest is the one to call. (I should probably schedule an appointment.) Leann Loftis is a Greenville native and owns Love Local Therapy Face And Body Studio.
In this episode we discuss her journey to ATL, starting a business, learning how to breathe and finding what makes you tick. Don't waste another minute and check out today's episode.

"Some beautiful paths can't be discovered without getting lost."
Erol Ozan
What were you born to do?
It's not a question that gets answered easily. If I'm being honest and transparent, I'm not entirely sure of my answer.
The good news is you don't need to know the solution right now. However, the exploration of that answer may just take you on a path you never even knew was there.
Imagine the fulfillment and joy you can feel when every day is another step on a trail you've blazed for yourself. The uncharted territory in your life is where your adventure begins.
My guest today, Jamarcus Gaston, is not only on a personal adventure, but he is also a trailblazer. His passion for sharing stories, exploring nature, and connecting with local businesses has allowed him to produce, shoot, and host multiple lifestyle shows for the CBS Affiliate here in Greenville, SC.
It's an adventure he is happy to invite you to. Don't believe me? Take a listen to today's episode and hear how you can get out of your comfort zone, find your purpose, chase your passion and overcome adversity. I promise you WON'T be disappointed.

"The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken."
Samuel Johnson
If you're like me, you've probably gotten down on yourself for coming up short on an ambitious goal. It's one thing to miss the mark once or twice. It's another thing to miss the mark over and over again.
When this happens, most people would likely tell you to adjust your goals. Make them more attainable and begin to stretch from there.
Though the advice is sound, another approach may be to focus on your habits and improve them to meet the ambitious goals you set.
My guest today, Joseph Caldwell, CEO of Consolidated Assurance and Chairman of the Board for First Responders Benefit Association says it best: "We are a slave to our habits."
Joseph challenges you to not only adjust your goals but adjust your habits. Work on developing small day to day activities and constantly apply more pressure. In doing so, you will gain grit, resilience, and endurance. All it takes is time.
In this episode we explore how to tackle overwhelming projects, changing habits, seeking challenges and taking responsibility for your life. There is a wealth of knowledge and value in this 35-minute episode.
