TMM120 Leading from Home for Conservation

Welcome back to a little express session on the show with Al Ramadan co-founder of Play Bigger the category design guru and Nik Strong-Cvetich, who’s the executive director of Save The Waves Coalition.

How Do We Lead in Conservation From Home

As directors, how do we take overwhelm of climate change, plastics, oceans, just everything that we’ve been bombarded with at the moment, which are just horrific messaging and going.

i.e is there one thing I can do on a micro level to make a difference.

Al:  For me, at least at a personal level, it was overwhelming what choices and where I could make investments for climate change. It’s something I really care about. I care about what’s going to happen for the kids. What I found with Save The Waves was it connected with my passion. Surfing is a passion of mine.

Ecosystems, the plants, the animals, the waves, the people, they are things that I want to see protected and intact.

That’s how I got involved with Save The Waves and the Benefits of protecting the ecosystem:

    * If we are successful next set some insanely aggressive goals at thousands of ecosystems protected by 2030.* If we do all of that, that is going to have a very positive impact on climate change.

For me it was, get something that you’re passionate about, get on it and go see if you can help that organisation which is just part of the solution to the macro.

Nikki:  It’s already integrated in your daily life. I think that’s the thing. People get overwhelmed by things that they can’t tangibly touch. That tangibility for you of surfing ecosystems and then business provides that trifecta. Also, your wife, she doesn’t surf, but she’s massively into marine conservation. Now suddenly she has a platform too.

Al:  That’s exactly right. Whilst I do surf, she enjoys the surf ecosystem. Don’t just think of it as being someone who’s a surfer. She will be walking along the top of the cliff looking at the ocean, looking at the artists in our part of Santa Cruz, whales.

Surf ecosystems have this wonderful thing. It’s a place where we go hang out and feel good.  So we can give back to the joy we give.

Nikki:  Nik how about your views – kids these days are coming home from school. They’re having stress anxiety and fear, terror from getting bombarded with the world is melting. These kids that are five and six are actually being nightmares about this overwhelmed.

You’ve got two young children. What would you say to parents that have kids trying to navigate through these massive messages at the moment?

Nik S-V: Well, I think about it in terms of leadership. Your job as a parent is to be a leader. Then your job as a leader is problem-solving for it.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a business or a nonprofit. You’re solving a problem. How do you do that as a leader is you take a big, huge problem and then you break it down into small pieces.

Then you take those pieces out and assign them to either partners or people underneath you. We actually did a really bad job sometimes in the ...

Reverse Mojo© Mastering The Magic Of Sitting With SELF

TMM142 Welcome to this weeks Mojo Reverse Mojo© Mastering The Magic Of Sitting With SELF

I read a quote the other day that said challenging times don’t make people become someone, they show you who they truly are.

To an extent, I tend to agree. I do believe extreme circumstances can build character – but the other side of this is you really get to see peoples true colours when the chips are down. Are they in or are they out.

When people are faced with a crisis, their actions show their values. As Elvis famously once said – values are like fingerprints, you leave them over everything you do.

You may be surprised by some people around you, their response and how they tackle these last few weeks. It’s always good to observe. However, I ask you – not “what do you think of how they handled it”? – but what are YOU doing to take care of your own side of the street?

Are you tapping into your own potential?

How are you using this reverse mojo down time to really reflect, review and realign what really matters? I call this The Internal Audit.

I bet, like me – you are fully engaged in work and life and are constantly asking a lot of yourself and the environment you operate in. Personally and commercially. So when COVID-19 hit, it may have thrown you for a second, but I’m gathering it also presented an incredible opportunity for you to do an “audit” on everything.

The one thing many people I have spoken with didn’t realise – is this audit was an inside job. Anyone can look at their budgets, the foundations of business and the economy – but what if this is deeper than that?

We might not like to admit it – but it’s not the banking, the govt or the health system we are questioning. There’s a little voice inside that’s questioning your own system. Our relationships, what we have built and who are are at the core of it all.

The universe, the laws of nature, the laws of our states, the way we work, interact and conduct our day to day lives got fully turned upside down. So, when all the proverbial change has fallen out of your pockets, what are you left with?

…Yourself. THE MOST IMPORTANT PROJECT EVER!

    There’s no turning back.

Good luck if you think you can un-see now….You will be forced to look at whether you are hanging on to the comfortable past stories – or have the courage to truly step up another dimension and define what great looks like.

The past is only an anchor if you refuse to cut the string to the stories that bind you there.

Whether it’s business or personal patterns – you will be asked to review and refine. What worked for you before probably wont work in the new future. Look up, not back.

Step One Decide: Drivers vs Passenger Seat

I feel there are always opportunities to use life as the ultimate rally. Rail, hail or shine there’s something special around every corner.

What’s your default position? Reasons why not or (self talk) or the knowing you just can’t not go and see what’s around the corner (self).

Whatever programming may have got us to this point in our lives – I can guarantee you right now,

  • TMM118 Unlocking Your Creative Mojo with Carlie Wacker

Unlocking Your Creative Mojo with Carlie Wacker

How do you keep your Mojo and rediscover your creativity when what you thought you were building has been completely turned upside down. This could be the exact creative gift you really need to get back to basics.

On today’s episode because I have one of my great friends, radio host face of the 80s 90s in the 2000s. My dear friend and fabuloso Carlie Wacker from The World of Wacker.

Carlie has always been an entertainer.

“I’m always producing shows in the neighbourhood as a little girl. It was a natural progression for me to go on and pursue a career in the entertainment industry. I danced in the United States. I came back to Australia. I embarked on what I thought was going to be this most fabulous acting career and dancing career. I ended up on radio”. I travelled all around Australia. I got to work in some really interesting small country towns and little communities. That’s where I discovered the real need for supporting a local community.

Without knowing it, I was unveiling what was going to be the next part of my life. That was to become a brand ambassador for local businesses and fashion has always been a major interest of mine. So when I moved to Noosa in 2012, I became immersed in the community.

I got to know all the fashion and local businesses. I became a real voice for them. That then ended up in me founding with my co-founder, Jacinta Elms runway fashion Australia, which is a sustainable fashion show that was meant to launch on the 21st of March this year.

But of course, due to our restrictions and social distancing that has been postponed. So as a representative for local creatives Carlie asked me advice on how to unlock creativity again and reignite the sense of purpose in work…

This isn’t a survival guide. This is about thriving.

This is about understanding, unleashing and unlocking the amazing potential that comes with just being present.

How do we help local creative businesses find their creative Mojo again and get inspired

    * when they feel like there’s a lot of restrictions the word, anti business, anti social, all the kind of usual outlets for creativity they might have normally anchored onto might have been taken away.

Carlie: It’s really tough when you don’t have a benchmark or that goalpost, – when there’s no structure – ,what’s the point of planning and putting in creativity when you just don’t know when that’s going to come about?

How do you find that motivation when you lack motivation entirely?

Step One – First: Stop looking at old frameworks for “success”

I think underneath it, or the underlying truth is not a lot of people do feel excited about the future because the one that they had built was torn down.

I always say you can’t build towers on quicksand.

    * So the first step is to start choosing your thoughts wisely and change your language.

    * What we’re going through at the moment on a collective level is a reprogramming of what success validation and business and your whole life looks like, which is what if instead of looking outward, you actually accepted that you could give yourself everything that you needed, that your family, that your community,

  • TMM117 Be What You Need From Others

TMM117 Be What You Need From Others

Today’s message is actually a really simple one. I want to talk about the difference between needs and wants and who’s actually in charge of supporting you during this period. Newsflash, it’s actually you!

Look at all the things that you think you need from other people right now whether it’s on a financial level and emotional level, a spiritual level and really stop and pause for a second and ask how you can actually be that for yourself?

    Be What You Need #1

One of the most important things that we do when we go through a journey of connected leadership is to realise that instead of always consuming information and looking outward for validation and recognition, whether it’s a promotion or a job title, or the number of likes that you get on an Instagram post that the greatest asset and

The greatest ally you’ll ever have is being able to protect, to provide and to connect with yourself. Union with Self

During times when there’s been so much disruption and the proverbial your life is turned upside down.

    * We’re taught often in society to look outward and to wait for someone to come in and give us a solution. That’s where expectations come from. * If you’re listening/reading this today, I want you to consider the importance of what can you be for yourself?

How can you use this time to start going within and reflecting on your own inner wisdom, your own inner knowledge, your own power, your own conductivity, and actually starting to discover that you know a lot more, and you’re probably capable of a lot more than you ever imagined.

Often, it’s only when we’ve lost everything that we start to become everything for ourselves.

    Let’s start with that journey.

    * What environment can you create for yourself? * What new sense of learning and purpose and connection can you provide for yourself? * What revelations and understanding and kindness can you provide for yourself?

The Old Frameworks May Not Work AnymoreWhen you start to go through this process is that you often realise that the decision making frameworks and the constructs for success were based on external validation, or actually trusting other people’s opinion so more than ever right now, you’re being asked to trust your own opinion. What happens if that’s never been the case?

    * If that since an early age has been taken out of you, if the thought of common sense has been eradicated, and backing yourself was really never an option because you always were told that you had to ask if this is the right thing to do.

    * Once you’ve come to terms with the fact then you’re willing to actually see what superpowers you have, the next step is to really take the process and undertake the press pause which is stopped going to look at conspiracy theory videos.

Stop waiting for other people to swoop in and sit down and ask yourself, what do I need from others? How can I give that to myself? :

    * What do I want the most? * How can I start creating it for myself? * What am I really capable of?

#2 Pause and Take Time To Reflect

Just sit for a second and allow the dust to settle.

    Allow the blurts, the ego,

Mindset Mojo : The Power Of Your Thoughts During Challenging Times

How to stay centred, grounded and lead from within no matter what is going on around you.

The power of your thoughts – How to get through abandonment and reach out to those you love regardless of where you sit right now

3 tools to not feel so isolated, not feel so abandoned and to really connect with self and others in a way that really counts…

Mindset Mojo – Harness positive energy – what you think about expands

The first way is the power of energy. We all know, “I’m thinking about you and the phone rings.” I

t’s that same person or you send a text or thoughts are extremely powerful. What you think about expands, so choose your thoughts very, very wisely at the moment.

If there is someone out there that you truly love or that you miss or that you’re anguished about, this is the time more than ever to send compassion and conversation and to imagine yourself in the same room as that person.

Mindset Mojo – Release resentment and judgement

    Go with the flow

How you use this time now the sense of self discipline, purpose, self reflection is actually a gift to stop racing around and having to be 17 million places.

It’s an opportunity for you to dive deeper into what truly matters, to think about who truly matters to you and who you are and what skills you haven’t tapped into.

Your unlimited potential to be creative, to be co creative, to be visionary, to understand more about what you need to, to operate in this fast paced world. Because it won’t be the same when come out of this.

Mindset Mojo – Be Aware But Don’t React

You’ll notice a few things as you go through the next few weeks. It will start to repel you, things will trigger you. You’ll get annoyed. You’ll get frustrated. You’ll get fed up. You’ll get a reaction to something.

HOWEVER: what’s really important is that you understand that any reaction is actually inside of yourself.

So observe yourself, understand where all these things are coming from and just be in a state of curiosity, not fear. Be prepared, but don’t be scared.

Please focus your energy and thoughts on those you care about or who need you more than ever (even if they are oceans away) – everything has a frequency …choose where you resonate.

    Mindset Mojo – Be Curious

It requires the next level, the next dimension of interacting not just the usual autopilot ways, but the rays that really make a difference.

The ripple effect to how we energetically interlink intellect and engagement in this world.

This is one of those times that you get to shine. Reach out, stay vibing high.

Remember, great leaders shine in the face of adversity so this could be your time.

Thanks for tuning in. I hope this message reminds you that no matter where you’re sitting right now, you’re not alone. We’re all in this together.

HOW TO SURVIVE LOCK DOWN WITH FAMILY

Tips For Purpose, Presence and Staying Sane In Close Quarters

No matter how zen you are, getting into a small space with people, with no real break during stressful times can be a challenge for anyone.

    – Setting up a “safe zone” for me time (no matter how small your house)

    – Don’t eat all the chocolate Mallowcakes at once

    – Why communication matters & Structure is crucial

    – Creativity and self expression – without annoying those close to you.

Welcome to a COVID-19 message on staying sane when you are suddenly all at home.

Me and my isolation buddy Roxy dog here, we just wanted to leave you a little message around how to not kill each other on captivity. I know it’s a really terrible expression but a lot of people have reached out to me they’re like, “Oh my god, suddenly I have to work from home and I’ve got all my family here and my kids. How do we make this work”

Especially if you’re a business owner, as you’re going through dire straits at the moment, you need a clear head.

How do you just create a little bit of space in the chaos to stay grounded so that you can make some good decisions and keep your cool?

Number one is, you can’t wing this.

Coping is not a strategy.  Yes, we have to be on purpose in your days and your weeks regardless. It doesn’t matter if you are working from home or working from Timbuktu.

What do you need to be achieving?

    How do you best think/work?

Create a Zen Space at home

Get you creative space, your “me” time. It has to be just a little corner of isolation that’s a sacred space in the house then make that your Zen space.

When we go into hotel rooms, or we go into beautiful yoga studios, or maybe go into retail stores we’re like, “Oh, look how nice they’ve got a little corner area where you can just sit there and have a cup of tea.” Why not create something like that.

That’s just like the safe zone in your house. When someone’s in the safe zone, you don’t go and interrupt their space.

When they’re in the safe zone they get uninterrupted 10 or 15 minutes of YOUR time.

Please don’t make the toilet your safe zone. Make it a place where you want to hang out, make it comfy and make it cozy. It could be like a nook in the window sill with some plants. It’s up to you to get creative. You’ve got time to look on Pinterest for that.

Most importantly is creating a space that is sacred where you have the ceremony to go and have some “me” time. Don’t try and work on top of each other. It just won’t work. It doesn’t matter how big a space you have. There is just an inch of that real estate that is just going to be for someone to go and get some time out.

    Clearly Communicate

You can’t expect people to know what you need or want if you don’t tell them so bottling everything up and getting f...

  • TMM 112 Aus Federal Gov Economic Stimulus Package

TMM 112 Aus Federal Gov Economic Stimulus Package with Greg Valles.

What you need to know to get ready and how the importance of knowing your numbers is vital to ride through the storm of an international crisis.

THE FIRST LOOK AT HOW THIS CAN SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS MARCH 2020 WITH GREG VALLES

As the new economic stimulus package comes into play in Australia, here are some basic tips to ensure you can review your numbers and understand where the package can help you, your staff and your business during uncertain times.

An economic stimulus package is not just a handout. It’s there to create sustainable success for our economy for the long term. And that means stepping up as a leader to make any plan around this robust, well thought out and with good intent.

Check your accountant/ financial advisor is across this

Ensure who ever is giving you tax advice is also well across the ins and outs of the stimulus package. Or, at least affiliated with and can collaborate with a firm and expert who is.

Get your numbers together – Make a plan around these 7 points:

    * Cash Flow Scenarios to Mitigate a Crisis* Starting out with Budgets and Cash Flow Forecasts* Forecasting Unpredictable Cash Flow* Scenario Planning for your Business* KPIs to Monitor your Cash Position* Automate your Reports* How to do a Cash Flow Analysis

Get Advise on Preparing The Submissions

Ensure you stay true to your business and understand the cashflow yourself. What core areas of your business are vital and non-negotiable. How can you leverage these to carry you through and what areas of the business can perhaps be a plan B.

Look at your “line items” for revenue and costs.

Consider a round table discussions with your senior team, advisors or core staff as to the now, then and next. Be proactive.

Lean in to your trusted partners, friends and those in your industry. Don’t be afraid to be the pioneer in this area too and ask questions to your local government even if no one else has as yet.

    Acknowledge and Respect Relationships

Throughout all of this it is imperative we acknowledge and respect relationships, our interactions with our staff, families and trusted clients and suppliers.

This is not simply about transactions – but ensuring a deep and calm centred approach to business and supporting each other for the long term. Not taking short cuts.

    STIMULUS PACKAGE DETAILS

For basis of summarising the Economic Stimulus Package Valles Accountants have provided the following top line points and links.

TMM 111 Financial Health with Greg Valles, from Valles Accountants Australia – How to plan and prepare during times of crisis for you and your business.

** Please bear with us on the audio as we had to record this on the go while Greg was in his office with limited audio levels, so we really appreciate your understanding.

    Managing Your Financial Health

I know that most of the world is in isolation at the moment, but that gives us even more of an opportunity to look under the hood.

What better place to research what you’re doing in your business now and how you’re managing your personal life is to look at your financial health?

What core pillars should you look at during times of crisis:

Financial Health and Self Care | Your Mental Wellbeing

Your own mental stability: People around you look to you to be the leader, the leadership, you’re in business.

    * Know there is always a solution: Back yourself and lean into your trusted team of advisors.

If you’re in business, you’ve always been a leader anyway – but ensure you reach out to the trusted sources of professionals around to help you meander your way through. Including institutions and verified government support.

There are range of options to look at and that is from the government stimulus package to some strong accounting advice at this stage.

    * So make a facts and stats approach rather than worrying in silence.* Banks and any other people that can be assistance you should look at every avenue.

    Financial Health and Your Team

Remember your actions inspire your teams: Be real and communicate:

Know your duty of care to your teams and staff.

Can you empower them to work smarter in different ways?

    * If you do go down the home office route where they working from home, and have you done all the legal preparation to ensure staff are working from home and business as usual. * Make sure all your information is readily accessible. * Deploy video conferencing. We’ll still meet with all the clients in video conferencing. * Making sure that your operations are secure – that you have clear communications and that your staff understand the collective co working situation. * Ensure confidentiality. Giving your staff clear guidelines on how to stay productive, how to keep confidential information whilst be empowered to work from home and still feel connected are vital aspects right now.

Financial Health – Manage your Costs, Know your Numbers

If you don’t know your numbers personally or professionally, this is a very important opportunity to get back to basics and actually have a working budget. Talk to your accountant, understand where do you actually sit in your own financial health?

Stop and prepare. Do not operate from fear.

Bills haven’t been officially passed yet around the stimulus and how those things can be accessed. So make sure you use this time to come from a place of sustainable cashflow – don’t just pull all your resources, stop spending and “hide”. That has a negative ripple effect for everyone.

Hi guys, welcome back to the Mojo Maker Podcast and to my guests Executive Director of Save The Waves Coalition, Nik Strong-Cvetich and Founding Circle, Playing Bigger co-founder Al Ramadan.

In this episode we chat about stewardship, clear KPI’s and community involvement in a protection program that is built to last.

Today’s show is about setting up a legacy, not only for sustainability in terms of our planet, but how we work in communities, clubs  and across different foundations by finding a common way to connect and care when you align what you’re passionate with.

Just before we start: I’m always setting up in some random place in the middle of the world. Luckily, this time I’m in my own backyard of glorious Noosa with two  incredible individuals above who I know, like, and trust a lot.

I can’t wait for you to discover a couple of the key subjects on today’s show – most importantly how we interact with our surf spots and the impact these iconic locations have on our community and conservation for future generations.
