  • Stop Should-ing Yourself

How many times do you catch yourself saying the word 'should' in your self-talk?

I should go on a diet.
I should move closer to my family.
I should (not) look for a new job.

Should is a tricky word because it is often a directive that comes from somewhere outside of ourselves and clashes with our internal desires. This leaves us with feelings of guilt and frustration and second-guessing ourselves.

Shoulds come to us through our family's expectations, our education and upbringing, what society tells us, and how we interpret our world, and oftentimes, we have no say in them. We just blindly accept the shoulds and act accordingly, even if we don't like it.

Listen to this week's episode to learn more about this word 'should' and seven other words you can use instead of 'should' that honor your own ability to choose and make decisions in your best interest.

  • Success or Failure: You Get What You Expect

When you set a goal, do you expect to meet it? Or do you let time take its course and see what happens?

When many of us set goals, we adopt one of three mindsets:
    1.  We expect to FAIL because we are looking backward at previous goal attempts.
    2.  We have NO EXPECTATION because we do not think that we have any control over our results.
    3. We expect SUCCESS because we are committed to our goals and know that our success is inevitable as long as we keep moving forward.

Join me as we dive into each of these mindsets and how they affect the results we get.

  • Wanting vs Committing: The Key to Goal Success

This week's episode of The Flight School Podcast is a vulnerable one!

In this episode, I discuss the differences between wanting to meet a goal versus committing to reaching a goal. (And the difference is HUGE!)

I discovered this for myself when I set my 2023 goals which included "wanting" to write a book by the end of Q3 of 2023. September has come and gone and there is no book.  Why? I only wanted to write a book, I didn't commit to making it happen.

Lesson learned -- and I hope that what I share in this episode will help YOU reach more goals too!

Listen in to learn the nine elements of committing to a goal:

    • Wholehearted dedication
    • Clear purpose and strong why
    • Long-term perspective
    • Consistent action
    • Resilience
    • Sacrifice and prioritization
    • Taking responsibility for your results
    • Support and community
    • Accountability

As you are preparing for 2024, it's important to realize that you must commit to your goals, not simply want them if success is what you're after.

  • What Limiting Beliefs Are Holding YOU Back?

Welcome to The Flight School Podcast, where we explore personal growth, empowerment, and the keys to unlocking your full potential. Today, we're delving into a topic that affects us all: limiting beliefs. These are those negative thoughts that hold us back, but here's the secret - you can conquer them. Join us as we discuss what limiting beliefs are, where they come from, and how to break free from their grip.

    Segment 1: Defining Limiting Beliefs
In this segment, we define limiting beliefs and highlight their impact on our lives. We emphasize the insidious nature of these beliefs, which often go unnoticed because we've internalized them for so long.

Segment 2: The Origin of Limiting Beliefs
We explore the origins of limiting beliefs, often tracing back to childhood, family expectations, education, societal norms, and personal conditioning. The crucial point is that we've accepted these beliefs as truths, and they've limited our potential ever since.

Segment 3: The Impact of Limiting Beliefs
Limiting beliefs can hinder personal growth, relationships, and self-confidence. They may even lead to self-sabotage, missed opportunities, and unfulfilled potential.

Segment 4: Recognizing and Confronting Limiting Beliefs
Learn about the concept of becoming a "thought watcher," which encourages curiosity about your thought patterns. We also emphasize the value of seeking support from a coach or mentor.

Segment 5: Top Five Common Limiting Beliefs
We identify and dissect the five most common limiting beliefs:

    1. "I'm not good enough": This belief leads to imposter syndrome, self-sabotage, and comparison to others.
    2. "I'm too old": We challenge the idea that age is a barrier to personal and professional growth.
    3. "I have to do it perfectly": Perfectionism can lead to procrastination and missed opportunities.
    4. "Rejection is all about me": We address the fear of rejection and how it's not a personal affront.
    5. "I don't have enough ___": We debunk this belief by highlighting the importance of prioritization and resourcefulness.

    Segment 6: Overcoming Limiting Beliefs
To wrap up, we provide strategies for conquering limiting beliefs. We discuss the power of doubting your doubt, the importance of recalling past successes, and the technique of reframing limiting beliefs with empowering thoughts.

    Conclusion:
Remember, you're not alone in dealing with limiting beliefs. The key is to recognize them, challenge them, and rewrite your personal narrative. By doing so, you can break free from their grip and live a life of possibility. Thank you for joining us on The Flight School Podcast, and we'll be back with more empowering content next week.
