The Money Honey - Women in Property, Finance & Construction episodes

  • Having children changes your priorities. Hannah Bashford from Model FS changed her goals and priorities and built a busy, flexible business around her family.

I started a career in financial services in 2004 after vowing to never work in the same industry as my Dad and training as an Early Childhood specialist- things didn’t go to plan though, and here I am nearly 20 years later having built a successful business in financial services.
I started my career with Friends Provident and then went on to work with a large London based estate agents- KFH, offering support to their mortgage and protection advisers, it was from here my love of property and financial advice grew. Moving on from there to be a paraplanner at Flight Centre, I then trained to be an adviser and eventually set up my own advice company.
In the time since setting up my business, I have grown from just me to a team of 4, I have been a Samaritans volunteer and now set up a Community Interest Company helping families in my community with children under the age of 5, I have a young family and understand the challenges and juggle of family life- not always getting it right!

  • Accountant Hayley Lucas talks about building the perfect business with balance and freedom, as a mum and business owner.

Hayley is a Chartered accountant and is owner and founder of Athena Accountants and Business Advisors, formed in 2016.
She works predominantly with female clients and is passionate about helping them grow their brands and businesses and achieve their goals. Whether they are in the start-up phase and need help to build, or they are already established and need a higher level of business advisory to grow, she works with women at all stages of business.
She also has a small team of women who work for her, based remotely working all over the country
Hayley is also in the process of setting up a brand new club called Working Mammas Club, it is a safe, supportive space, designed to be a network of like minded women who will empower and encourage each other.
This is born out of Hayley's passion for women to be each others biggest fans. To remove competition and provide accountability for female entrepreneurs.
While. Hayley works with women, she is a single mum to 3 boys and has perfected the art of juggling work, children and life.  She hopes to inspire other women to do the same.
She is a big believer in a work life balance and family comes first, and this comes after years of being employed full time, having to work in an office from 9 to 5 and missing out on important time with her children.

  • Representing young women in financial services. Stepping into her power, Bella Streames from Velvet Mortgage and Insure.

What do you get when you mix an abundance of financial knowledge with a zesty enthusiasm to change our industry for the better? A young female entrepreneur passionate about helping us all to protect our livelihoods, on a mission to shake up the insurance and protection industry alongside her mentor mum and change lives. 26-year-old financial services expert, Isabella Streames from Great Oakley Northants, is not your archetypal besuited number-cruncher but a young mixture of drive and passion, confidence with sprinkles of shyness all rolled into one. She has grown up around her mum (Joanna Streames, previously also on the show) in the industry so it’s second nature and it’s become a joint mission together to change the way things are with different appeals to different demographics. Isabella is passionate about speaking to young girls to spark interest to join our industry and reaching a younger audience to hammer home the importance of protecting yourself when you are young. Her mum tragically lost her own mother at the age of 19 and was nominated as guardian to her 12 year-old sister. Isabella knows the stories of how the girls struggled financially because there wasn’t enough provision in place, the Will was a mess and the various legal firms involved took a large cut of their inheritance leaving them penniless.

This episode is particularly special to me because Isabella and her mother Joanna, have been clients of mine and were an absolute joy to work with which in turn resulted in us becoming industry friends. I love them as a double trouble duo, mother and daughter.

It makes me think about the special moments my mum and I share too. I love them as individuals even more so. Isabella is young, ambitious, and talented. Most importantly ... she's brave! She is stepping outside her comfort zone massively to be here on the show because she wants to represent young women and empower them to be brave! I am so proud of her and I am delighted you get to share this delicious episode with me.
