Before I made the move from Kentucky to New York City, I had tons of people congratulating me about it. But shortly after, it'd be followed by their advice and thoughts on why *they* would never move there. If I listened to the people back in Kentucky, close friends and family, I wouldn't have ever moved. Which brings me to today's Minisode topic on why you should beware of advice. I cover why you should listen to everyone, but also nobody. I cover how even expert advice (including mine) can be completely useless, at least to you, right now. And I cover what you should do with advice when someone decides to offer it. Hope it helps!

Lyndon Purcell is the Manager of Education Services to a leading health and fitness service provider. Lyndon’s academic background, at both the undergraduate and masters level, has encouraged him to look for the variables that most effectively influence complex systems with minimal negative trade-offs.
To put things simply: Lyndon is my new man-crush from Australia. He's thoughtful, handsome, and an admirable thinker. This conversation was the beginning of a beautiful friendship seeing as how we connected on so many different levels. In this episode, we covered how Lyndon has grounded himself during the pandemic, what strategies he's used to keep perspective both in the short-term and the long-term, how he's incorporated mindfulness and meditation in his life, how he avoids the hedonic treadmill, how he handles comparing himself to other people his age, what's important to him, how he's been building fewer but more meaningful relationships, and much more. I genuinely enjoyed this episode with Lyndon and I have a good feeling he'll be a repeat guest in the future. Hope you enjoy!

What are processed foods? Which ones are OK? Which ones should we avoid? Why are they even bad in the first place? These are all valid questions, and I think the problem lies when the latest nutritional guru tells you to avoid ALL processed foods as if it's poison for your body. So in this Minisode, I wanted to dispel some of those myths and explain to you why that guru doesn't live in the real world. Eating some processed foods on a regular basis won't kill you, and some are actually very healthy for you. Listen to the Minisode to find out more. Enjoy!

There’s this new phenomenon in my life where I actually feel compelled to move more. I regularly work out with weights, but it’s not enough. It’s as if my inner athlete is trying to hold on as I get older—I want to run, jump, play, etc. My primal instincts are telling me that I’m getting slow, and when I get slower, there’s a higher chance of me being killed by a predator. I’m not sure what it is, but I know I feel better when I incorporate some type of movement each day and multiple types of movement each week.
I’m aiming to get back to these basics in my workouts: long-duration endurance training, high heart rate training, strength, and speed are my main focuses. In this Minisode, I break down exactly how I plan on doing it on a weekly basis, along with WHY these basics are so important as you get older.

An asymmetric opportunity is one that has huge potential upside and very limited downside. On the other hand, asymmetric risks have very little upside, but lots of downside. After learning from people like Nassim Taleb and Naval Ravikant about these topics, I wanted to spread this concept to others. We have limited time in the day, so thinking about asymmetric opportunities could point towards what's worth doing. In this solo episode, I wanted to give a few examples that have impacted my life, along with giving my thoughts on other examples people have listed.
**Asymmetric Opportunities**
James Clear: writing a book, investing in a startup, investing in the stock market (though generally less asymmetric than startups).
Naval Ravikant: Start a company, create a book, podcast, video, blog, create a (software) product, go on many first dates, go to a cocktail party, read a Lindy book, move to a big city, tweet, ask out a stranger.
Nate Green: Learn to blog, start to meditate, leave your phone at home, learn marketing and sales, live in a less-developed country for a month, learn to cook, call your grandparents.
**Asymmetric Risks**
Nate Green: Texting and driving, cheating on spouse, buying things I couldn't afford with credit cards, constantly seeking new things to learn while neglecting to practice stuff I already knew, talking shit/gossiping about people who weren't around in order to impress the people that were around, taking out a $35,000 loan to start my own personal training studio (I made way more money and had less headaches when I trained clients at a health club).

There are benefits to learning through experience, but if you can avoid countless headaches, save time, and improve your results, why would you not? That's what I wanted to cover in this Minisode. And even if you're not just starting out, you'll still find plenty of helpful reminders about what you need to be doing on a regular basis to maximize your progress. I cover overarching principles about diet and exercise, but I also give specific tactics that you can start applying right away. Hope you enjoy it.

Parents, grandparents, friends, spouses, and random co-workers at the office — everyone has an opinion about how you should live your life, especially when it comes to dieting. But in this Minisode, I share with you my best strategies that I've used myself and with clients I've coached on how to resist this peer pressure and stick with your goals.
I provide specific examples of what to say, I cover how to stay calm when someone makes a backhanded comment, I explain why it's not your job to please other people with your diet choices, and much more.
Dieting is already hard enough without people trying to sabotage your progress, so make sure you're ready by arming yourself with what I mention in this Minisode. Hope it helps.

Really enjoyed this episode with Tony. He was down to earth, insightful, and offered several tidbits of wisdom. Tony is a veteran in the fitness industry and someone I (and many others) have looked up to over the years, so it was great to have a chat. I wanted to see how he has been managing his business and mental health during Coronavirus, how his injury rehab has been going, how he got started in the fitness industry, how to thrive in uncertain conditions, and much more. Most importantly, I'm stoked we got to talk about his love for movies/TV shows, and about how he manages free time now that he's a dad, husband, and business owner. He didn't disappoint!
The bio from his site is a good indicator of how this podcast went (plus, it tells you about him):
Tony Gentilcore is one of the co-founders of Cressey Sports Performance, which really should have been called "Cressilcore Sports Performance" because that sounds like an awesome castle where a wizard lives (and plays sports).
He's no longer coaching there, but his legacy remains. Tony's Techno Tuesdays will live on forever.
When he’s not picking things up and putting them down himself, he trains people at his studio, CORE, located in Boston, MA. He also contributes to the top fitness magazines and websites around, and sets up a camera in his garage to record his lightsaber skills.
He lives in Boston. With his wife, Lisa, and son, Julian. And cat, Dagny.

The term "reverse dieting" has gained popularity over the years, but few people know what it means or how to implement it properly. In this Minisode, I wanted to cover why you should care about reverse dieting, who should go through a reverse diet (and when), what happens to your body when you reverse diet, how to properly reverse diet (with specifics), and more.
I tried to break it down as simply as possible so you don't fall in the trap of chronically dieting and spinning your wheels. Hope it helps.

The way I eat throughout the day is second nature to me, so I don't think too much into it. But then I realize, maybe other people would benefit from my thought process for what I eat each day, meal to meal. So that's that this Minisode is about.
I cover the two questions I always ask myself before each meal, what I eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, my pre-workout and post-workout meal/snack strategy, one way I balance out my calories so that I don't have to weigh my food, and more.
I forgot to mention this in the Minisode, but if you enjoyed this one, you'll love my new product where I break this down in complete detail and provide you step-by-step instructions on how to implement it yourself. It's called Automated Fitness 2.0 and you can learn more here.
