For those who don't know, "DrunkCasts" are my solo podcasts where I answer people's questions—on diet, exercise, life, fighting small children, and anything else—while slightly intoxicated. This DrunkCast was actually a more modest episode because I was recording on a Sunday night. But typically, I'm slurring my words pretty heavily by the end. Nonetheless, whiskey was still involved (Proper Twelve, to be exact) and the answers were off the cuff. I always have such a great time doing these and the questions I got for this one were spectacular, so thanks for everyone who participated. So get cozy, grab a drink if it's acceptable, and enjoy this episode.
QUESTION TIMESTAMPS:
(2:58) Still in love with the apartment?
(5:28) If you could only do/have one for the rest of your life between enjoyable diet, enjoyable workouts, or good sleep, what would you choose?
(7:10) Info (workouts, nutrition, etc.) for those of us working on body recomposition (gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time). Thanks!
(14:41) Something about building long-lasting habits? Plz.
(23:47) If you had to live your life without one of the five sense, which would you pick?
(27:11) Is collagen powder a hype? Or actually beneficial?
(32:03) What is one of the most motivational books you’ve read?
(41:40) Do you recommend gaining experience coaching clients in person before jumping into online coaching? Thank you for your positive energy!
(47:21) Does quality/price of multivitamins matter?
(50:54) Do you struggle with binge eating?
(51:17) Best New York slice? I think we need a food review series.
(52:13) How many 3rd graders would it take to kill you? (No weapons)
(59:11) Thoughts on COVID?

You hear every fitness coach on Instagram talking about how consistency is key, but there are very few people who give practical advice on how to achieve that. At least, not without paying them hundreds of dollars or buying their new ebook. So in this Minisode, I wanted to provide six ways that you can adhere to your diet and exercise goals to improve your consistency. I cover goal setting, using your friends to your fitness advantage, a nifty website with monetary commitments, what improves my own consistency when it's lacking, and methods I use with my own clients to achieve their fitness goals faster. Hope it helps.

There seems to be a huge push by some fitness influencers and coaches to avoid using a bodyweight scale. Essentially, they claim it does more harm than good. While I think there could be truth to that for certain individuals, the majority of people who have issues with the scale simply don't understand the fluctuations and how to use it effectively. In this Minisode, I try to shed some light on why a scale used appropriately is one of the best tools for losing fat and gaining muscle.
I cover a lot in this one, including:
-What the science says about weighing yourself regularly
-Why AVOIDING the scale is actually exacerbating your negative relationship with it
-What causes daily weight fluctuations (and why)
-How I effectively use the scale with myself and with clients to lose fat and gain muscle
-The appropriate rate of weight loss or weight gain based on your goals
-Other tools for tracking progress besides the scale

I've been wanting to chat with Jordan for weeks, but we've had to reschedule a few times because he tested positive for COVID.
He's only recently gotten better, so I was curious if he was going to be sluggish during our episode. Man, was I wrong. Jordan brought the fire as he talked about how he and his wife built their successful Impact Fitness Coaching Academy, how he plans to get into the mushroom business, how he incorporates visualization for success, advice for connecting with people you look up to, advice for connecting with other peers in your field (even during COVID), finding mentors and friends who level you up even when you can't see them in person, how to ask better questions, and much more. This one was crammed with helpful stories and applicable advice, so you get the best of both worlds in this awesome convo with Jordan. Enjoy!

While reaching your goal weight or goal level of leanness is difficult, it is even harder to stay there all year long without a crazy amount of sacrifice. Luckily, I think I have some options for you to make this dream a reality.
In this Minisode, I cover how to figure out what a "lean body" means to you, how to decide between cutting or maintenance, understanding the tradeoffs between life and fitness, how to determine a "measure indicator" to keep you in check all year long, and lastly, I go over some practical applications for your nutrition and activity on a regular basis (including the guidelines I've set for myself). Lots of juicy details in this one and I think you'll walk away with at least a few gems to start implementing right away. Hope you enjoy!

Nothing is more frustrating when beginning a cut than feeling smaller and weaker after only a few weeks. You feel flat, stringy, and your old rep maxes are crushing you in the gym. So you panic. You start eating all the food—which is partially awesome because you fill back out and get stronger—but you're also right back where you started. What should you do?
I cover exactly that in this Minisode, where I explain how to approach both your training and nutrition to aid your strength while dieting. I discuss the two crucial mistakes you have to avoid, why feeling smaller and weaker for a short period of time is normal (and necessary), how to track your progress, what training frequency and intensity you should be using, plus more. Hope you enjoy!

I had such a fun time recording this in-person conversation with Rico. My girlfriend and I hosted him to a glorious steak dinner, paired with a few bottles of red wine, then decided to record this podcast afterward. The result was a wine and bourbon-fueled conversation between two mid-twenty-year-old dudes, discussing everything from Instagram to fears of death to how many kids Rico is going to have. We covered a lot in this one, but I promise we will keep you entertained (as you'll notice in the first few seconds as I slur the name of my own podcast). Enjoy!

Nothing is more annoying than consistently having your fitness goals sabotaged because of where you work. It's typically not even your fault—the boss bought pizza for everyone at lunch today, your co-worker brought in doughnuts for breakfast, and the ever-so-convenient massive candy jar just won't stop eye f*cking you. It's a constant struggle. But I've got you covered in today's Minisode as I discuss six different ways to deal with this junk food sabotaging your fitness goals. Listen to this, then take back your food freedom at work. Enjoy!

I was excited to finally have this handsome guy on the podcast, and even more excited to share our conversation with you all today. For the two people who are unaware, Mike Matthews is the founder and CEO of Legion Athletics as well as a bestselling fitness author of several books, including Bigger Leaner Stronger, Thinner Leaner Stronger, and The Shredded Chef. His simple and science-based approach to building muscle, losing fat, and getting healthy has sold over a million books, helped thousands of people build their best bodies ever, and his work has been featured in many popular outlets including Esquire, Men’s Health, Elle, Women’s Health, Muscle & Strength, and more, as well as on FOX and ABC.
In this episode, Mike covered his back story of how he went from an "average guy" to building an 8-figure company, being a best-selling author, and much more. Beyond the story, I really wanted to dive into how Mike thinks — how he makes decisions, if he has any mentors, his best tactics for learning and retaining new information (to which he gave an incredible answer), how he decides what's worth doing (or not doing), what drives him on a daily basis, plus others. Towards the end of the podcast, we even get into what Mike plans on doing when he retires, what excites him about the future, and... his pseudonym, for when he creates short stories and video games? It's a fun one, so I hope you enjoy!

On this (super quick) Minisode, I wanted to talk about how I'm proud to call myself a productive lazy person. I've figured out ways to get the most amount of work done, with the least amount of effort possible. This goes for my fitness, my finances, my productivity, and more. I do it by following one principle: making the right thing the easy thing. In this Minisode, I cover specific examples and how to apply them. Enjoy!
