57:02 Bill's BIG Word
Bill's BIG Word of the Day for Friday, October 11th, is 'refurbish'.
Preparations continue for much of our listening area ahead of Hurricane Milton. For Carmen, her ride home yesterday was quite the experience as many evacuees headed north, turning her usual 1-hour commute into a 4-hour journey.
And for those out of state encouraging their Floridian friends and family members, sometimes that "helpful" invitation can make things a little more difficult.
As we continue to provide updates on the path and strength of the storm, we know the importance of trusting in God.
Dave had thought he planned well enough ahead of the storm for the delivery of a new refrigerator, only to learn upon delivery that he needed some more work done for this new machine to work.
Bill got his hands on a generator and has a plan for it, but he may have overdone it.
As Carmen was driving home yesterday, she was shocked to see vehicles traveling in the emergency lanes, not knowing that Gov. DeSantis had opened up the emergency lanes for the evacuation routes.
As we face the hurricane, we also face an upcoming election. Dave shared Day 2 of our 30 Days of Prayer for the Presidential Election.
If you find yourself off the grid, Carmen shared some information on how you can contact emergency services via satellite with your iPhone.
As a radio station heard in 4 states, we recognize that not everyone who is listening will be directly impacted by Milton. But, we hear the support from our listening family in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee and love and appreciate you.
Bill highlighted Psalm 89, which is a great guide for the road ahead for many of us.
Part of our plan for the storm is to have Jayar ride it out at the station to provide you with a familiar voice. In preparation for that, he went to the grocery store to stock up on supplies and it went much like Dave anticipated it would.

There's a lot going on as the west coast of Florida braces for Hurricane Milton and we are 30 days out from the Presidential Election. We spent much of the morning talking about the hurricane and a prayer guide that we have created for the 30 days prior to the election.
Bill told us how he was to lead an ordination service yesterday afternoon and an angel in the form of Karen showed up to help his son with a broken-down car situation.
As Hurricane Helene recovery efforts continue in North Carolina, some have resorted to an old way to reach those stuck in the mountains as a pack of mules leads the way.
Carmen told us about a man who was set to receive a leadership award, until it was discovered that he actually hadn't shown up for work in 6 years!
For listeners in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, today is the last day to register to vote in the November election. For Alabama, you have until October 21st.
Dave shared a few family moments from the weekend as his grandson turns 3 today!
Today is the 1-year anniversary of the attacks in Gaza. Bill shared 5 ways to pray for Israel.
As we face so many uncertainities in the days ahead, prayer and the songs we are playing are helping us and you find JOY!

After we re-shared our conversation with Jeremy Rosado this morning, Carmen told us about a family that is a little larger after the birth of a 4th daughter. And what's crazy is that all 4 daughters share the same birth date in the year they were each born.
The Atlanta Falcons were living large after their win against the Bucs last night.
It's a Big Week in Alaska as they celebrate Fat Bear Week. But the celebration of these large animals had to be delayed for a sad reason. But hearing that reminded Carmen of a story about a big bear in Canada known as The Boss. While Bill couldn't remember that story, none of us could remember that Jane Goodall is still alive!
Schwan's Frozen Food Delivery used to have a large presence on the roads but that is coming to an end now.
Carmen shared a graphic that details just how large a storm Hurricane Helene is in comparison to Hurricane Katrina.
A nagging little issue has become a larger problem for Bill as he deals with what is believed to be an IT Band issue. It got him thinking about disability and faith and he shared from a book on the subject. It reminded Carmen of Katherine Wolf's book, Hope Heals as well as our friend Greg, who is larger than life in some ways.

As a part of his BIG Word today, Bill called the show a "repository of brilliance". We'll let you decide if that is the case!
Carmen encouraged us to start The Bible Recap New Testament reading plan that actually started yesterday!
Bill brought us one of his trivia games with an October theme. Carmen and Dave were more excited to talk about this week's Thursday Night Football matchup.
There have been a lot of celebrity deaths recently. Dave thought that one of those might not get that much attention so he took the time to recognize Frank Fritz who was a part of the American Pickers TV show. One of the celebrities we couldn't remember was Maggie Smith, but you helped us out.
Kris, our Production Director, and first Producer of The Morning Cruise, joined the show as we continue to celebrate 18 years of your favorite morning trio.
Carmen took some time to remember our friend, Mandisa, who would have celebrated a birthday today.
If you are looking for ways to help with Helene, we have compiled a list of ways and organizations you can help at thejoyfm.com.
Dave told us a flight-related story that he thought Carmen would be upset about but then feel better about once she got the full story of a pilot feeding stranded passengers.
Bill hit us up with some knowledge on the history of the tomato before his BIG Word of the Day.

Man, Oh Man! What a show we had today! We're continuing to monitor the relief efforts from Hurricane Helene and looking for ways to help locally.
Today is October 1st and there were several things to celebrate! October is National Book Month and Pizza Hut has announced the return of their Book It! program.
President Jimmy Carter turns 100-years-old today as well! His humanitarian efforts have been in the headlines for years and he is an example of a Christian man leading out in service. Men of a different generation have seen that example and that of others and that is why we are seeing more Gen Z men in church. Dave also shared a video from a church in Maryland that looked at a mainstream study of Christian men and their stereotypes.
Another man making the headlines went on an unbelievable journey to make it to the church to walk his daughter down the aisle.
Another man was featured on College GameDay this weekend for his Alabama fandom and he had a few other men to thank as well!
We almost forgot that today is the 18th anniversary of The Morning Cruise!
As October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month, Dave gave us an update on his wife and the "free" foods she is needing as part of her diet.
With fall around the corner, Bill has apples on the mind and shared a flowchart of apples based on sweetness.

After a long week last week in the wake of Hurricane Helene, we're hoping for a less stressful week as we continue to discuss some of the relief efforts across the Southeastern U.S. Bill offered up a prayer for raging storms that is sure to help provide some comfort.
M&M's may be a comfort food for some. But what about PB&J M&M's?
For the gluten-free audience, BIll recommends a Gluten-Free Pumpkin Pancake mix he picked up at Trader Joe's. He just needs to figure out what to do in the recipe to make the consistency a little smoother.
Football provided a bit of a distraction this weekend. On the pro-level, Tom Brady returned to Tampa as a broadcaster for the first time. And Carmen tried to be low-key in discussing Alabama's win over UGA.
We learned of the passing of Kris Kristofferson late last night. The words of his only #1 hit might provide some words of comfort to some. And many will be playing his songs as they remember him.
With all the negative things going on in the world, some may wonder if the end of the world is at hand. Bill shared an article that asked and answered that question.
