  • Stuart Sobel Author of ‘QUEEN BEE’ AND the KILLING OF “BUGSY” SIEGEL
This story, ``Queen Bee and the Killing of Bugsy Siegel”, although just under 100,000 words, becomes a quick read because of this technique of ‘each word having to sell’, ie, ‘no fluff.’ As it turns out, the ‘David Olen Advertising Agency’ would be the first and last employer Sobel would ever have. This was never planned, it just turned out that way. Like many people in the 1970s, especially in Southern California, Sobel began his working career by purchasing an income property, initially with the money he had saved from odd jobs during his adolescent years, and then churning that into other purchases and sales of an income property.  In 1977, he bought practically an entire city block in the quiet little town of Echo Park, located just ‘north-west’ of Downtown Los Angeles. He converted its 30-year-old free-standing buildings to accommodate the fledgling industry that he wanted to explore, that of ‘mini-storage.’  He christened it ‘THRIFTEE STORAGE CO.’ “Echo Park’s Favorite.” About 20 years later, he added the tagline “Since 1977.” On this site stood the first silent movie studio in Los Angeles.  It held the backlot of the original ‘Mack Sennett Studio.’  When a project interests him, he jumps into it head-first and gives it his best effort for success. As Sobel says, “If the project intrigues me, I go into it all the way.” He can now say with certainty, “Every article and book I’ve ever written, including ‘Queen Bee’ and the Killing of “Bugsy Siegel, A Crime Story. A Love Story and A Saga on Organized Crime in America!” was written on the back-lot of the Mack Sennett Studio.”

  • Randy Franklin, (Ret LAPD Sgt) shares his insight on Policing in America
Until it all went bad, Randolph Franklin used to talk with pride about his life in the Los Angeles Police Department. Wear a badge for nearly half of your 50 years and somewhere along the way it becomes more than just a job. He was proud as well of the life he built on Woodlawn Avenue -- an unremarkable street set amid the gang violence and poverty of the city’s southern swath. It’s an odd place for a cop to live.  In the early morning darkness of May 25, 2006, Franklin’s two worlds -- his life on Woodlawn and his life in the LAPD -- collided.

  • Author Michael Shevack on "Soul Lessons from The Wizard of OZ"
Michael Shevack, the celebrated author of 6 books, is known for writing Gillette, The Best A Man Can Get, a campaign still running in 120 countries. His work on Apple computers won him an award at the Cannes Film Festival. He has now created two books with two different approaches to mental and spiritual well-being in a time in our history when Americans are the most vulnerable to breaking down. In the last year, Americans have experienced a whole new world ... A journey down a yellow brick road, of sorts, that even Dorothy and her colleagues would have found difficult to navigate and very confusing. The Wizard of Oz is more than a story. It contains profound spiritual lessons. It teaches every soul how to go from the dull, flat black & white, “Kansas State” - to the vibrant, colorful, “Oz State” - spiritually-open, fully-awake, One with All Life and Existence.   With a touch of Glinda's wand, you will learn how to avoid the whirling cyclone of mental confusions (and especially guilt), so you can return home to your True Self. And along the way, of course, you'll meet the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. After all, we cannot have spiritual freedom unless we unify our Minds, Heart and Will together. That's the only way to meet our worst fear:  the Wicked Witch that lurks in the subconscious of every one of us. You'll never look at the characters in this story the same way. Each is a mirror of a different aspect of your soul, teaching you powerful Soul Lessons about yourself. So, take back the broom of the Witch that imprisons you. Click your ruby-red (gender-neutral) sneakers together. Master the most powerful of all soul lessons:  There's no place like home!  Your spiritual awakening is already right here, right where you are right now!  Just believe in yourself!!

  • Megashia Jackson, Mom,Comedian, Musician, Drummer, Teacher, Model, Speak
At the tender age of four, she received second and third-degree burns over fifty percent of her body at the hands of a babysitter. She was taken away from her mother, hospitalized, and in recovery for over a year. When she was finally well enough to go to school, she was mercilessly teased about her burn scars. But she had two secret weapons: a mind of steel and laughter. After learning “fire breathing” techniques as a way to deal with her physical pain, Megashia wasn’t affected by the hurtful taunts of her classmates. And when she realized that laughter was the best way to fight her bullies, she became the class clown and started to develop her gift for comedy. Megashia’s grandmother owned a record store, whereas she was exposed to many genres of music there along with Gospel at church. She soon began to pursue her own musical interests, playing brass instruments in several school bands before settling on her true love – percussion. A career in music was put on hold when she had children and needed to do something more practical. Coming from a long line of beauticians, Megashia decided to go to cosmetology school. It turns out she also had a talent for making her clients look and feel beautiful. She went on to open a thriving hair salon and created a line of hair care products. (More information upon request can be provided regarding Megashia’s hair care business). Today Megashia’s largest goal is to inspire other women. She completed the leadership program at A New Way of Life, an organization helping formerly incarcerated women reconnect with their purpose. She is an ordained minister specializing in the Ministry of Music, using traditional African Drumming and healing principles to uplift and connect with women who are going through their own challenges.
