The Mountains and the Sea Reviews Prince episodes

September 29, 2019 It'a A Toll-Free Number - 1-800-NEW-FUNK
A early 90's compilation of Paisley Park and NPG Records artists that you could only get by calling a toll-free number where - it's rumored - that Prince himself might occasionally answer the phone? Yes, please! Josh called the number back in the day, but sadly never got Prince on the horn - but he DID get this partially awesome and always perplexing collection of songs. Happy Purple listening, friends.

September 15, 2019 Time to Reapply - Child of the Sun Remixes and More
A single episode on Mayte's Child of the Sun turned out not to be enough. Remixes, versions of songs by other people, and some unreleased stuff ALSO need to be covered and we are here to get it done. But here's the real question: If Eye Love U 2Night, will you share the pod with a friend in the morning light?

September 01, 2019 Break Out the SPF 30 - Child of the Sun
This week we have the only album by our favorite bellydancing dog lover, Mayte. 1995's Child of the Sun is an interesting mix of original and rehashed material that definitely has it's peaks... and some things best left under the waves. Happy purple listening, friends.

July 21, 2019 The Exodus Continues
We continue our deep drive into 1994-1995 with ANOTHER episode on the New Power Generation effort, Exodus. Prince was so stinkin' busy: The Get Wild maxi-single, THREE versions of Super Hero, an early version of The Exodus Has Begun, and an entirely unreleased song, It Takes 3. What sinks and what soars this week? Happy purple listening, friends.

July 07, 2019 The Exodus Has Indeed Begun
We are back on track with our 94-95 era Prince series. The Artist Formerly Known as Prince may have SEEMED like he was not as prolific as he was in the 80s, but the man was BUSY. The New Power Generation - with lots of direction and input from, um, Tora Tora - released their second album: Exodus. We have all the deets and lots of thoughts on this P-Funk album. Join us for a funky ride!

June 09, 2019 Please Select a Video Experience - The Gold Experience Videos and More
The Mid-90s ain't over! Well, at least not here on TMATS. Endorphinmachine, Gold, Shy, Days of Wild, and Billy Jack Bitch all had alternate versions. We talk about videos for Dolphin, Gold, Eye Hate U, Endorphinmachine, Rock N Roll Is Alive, TMBGITW, and a couple of live performances that were... fraught. Happy purple listening, friends, and join us for a funky ride.
