This is episode 10 of The Mr. Mike Podcast: Wrong Answers Only. We had a chance to chat with local Montrealer, Jospeh D'Intino. He is a PhD Candidate in School and Applied Child Psychology at McGill University. His doctoral thesis examines the development of executive functioning skills (i.e., planning, inhibition, working memory, goal setting, etc.) in adolescents and how best to support students to improve these skillsets. Joseph has also published peer-review articles concerning best research in education, differentiated instruction, and how to support students with learning disabilities. Joseph also works to give back to his community through fundraising efforts that support youth programs, as well as through his website and blog, Healthy Learning MTL (healthylearningmtl.com), which provides free tips, articles, and resources for parents and educators in an effort to disseminate research findings and expertise to the wider community. Our special guest for this episode is Laurie Nave. She is a writer, musician, and instructional designer. She spent 16 years teaching general music and choir. She freelanced her way into a new career as an instructional designer, working the last decade at nonprofit organizations, NASA, and now The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Yes, NASA!

She has published two suspense novels - Chosen by a Killer and Revenge al Dente - featuring Celia Brockwell as a “do anything for the story” journalist. The Bone Farm, Laurie’s third installment, will be published in early 2023. She has also published a historical romance, Where Magnolias Lie, set in her hometown and New Orleans. On August 1, she will release an inspirational devotional entitled Run to the City: Abundant Living After the Well. In 2022, she also published two children’s picture books based on rhyming stories she created as a music teacher.

Laurie is currently working on a suspense novel set in Huntsville. In addition, she is working on her first speculative dystopian-style novel.

In this episode, I had the pleasure of talking with Erin Kiger. She is an experienced educator with over 15 years in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, instructional and technology coach, and data & testing coordinator. Currently, she is a Professional Learning Specialist with Swivl, and develops Professional Learning content behind the scenes. Her first published book is with EduMatch Publishing, Balancing the EDU Life. This book is a collection of stories from educators with different roles and backgrounds who were willing to share their struggles and successes along their path in education. The purpose of the book is to bring everyone together based on their shared experiences, so that no one feels alone in education. The book is available on Amazon and the EduMatch website.

In this episode, Mr. D and Mr. Mike interview a local film artist, Merrill Matthews. He is from Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is a huge fan of pop culture (especially the 90s!), He studied at Concordia University in their Film Studies program, and has been making short films since 2016. His short film “Included” which is about workplace inclusion, won the Honorable Mention award at the 2019 Canada Shorts Film Festival. His current film “The Love Letter” was selected as part of the London edition of the Lift Off Global Network Film Festival, as well as the 4Theatre Film Festival. He is also a husband and father.

In this episode, we interview up and coming superstar artist, Carlo Polidoro López. Born in Canada and raised in Ecuador, he is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His works reflects the aesthetics of the streets of Ecuador and Canada, his home countries. He relates personal stories, memories, and narratives of everyday life, and in a bigger way, brings the street experience of South American society to North America. He uses an instinctual process to allow this visual description to take life. López is officially represented by Galerie Laroche/Joncas located in Montreal where he had his first solo show 2021. Since then, Lopez’s works have been displayed at the renowned Montreal Papier Art festival. He has also been interviewed by Nantali Indongo for CBC radio one and the Link Magazine by now CBC journalist Brian Lapuz. His works can be found in private collections in Montreal, New York, Toronto, and Ecuador. Enjoy!
