On the eve of their disappearance, friends Suzanne Streeter and Stacy McCall celebrated their graduation from Kickapoo High School in Springfield by attending various graduation parties. As reported by the Charley Project, an online resource dedicated to missing persons cases, the two women drove separately to Streeter's residence after the festivities, intending to spend the night there. The Springfield Police Department noted that they were last seen at approximately 2:15 a.m. on June 7.

The Springfield News-Leader previously indicated that the presence of the women's belongings in the home suggested they had begun preparing for bed at the time of their abduction. Their jewelry was found in the bathroom alongside damp cloths, which were likely used to remove their makeup after the evening's celebrations. Additionally, McCall's shorts were neatly folded atop her shoes, as reported by the outlet.

Sherill Levitt, Streeter's mother, was last in contact with a friend around 11:15 p.m. on June 6. When authorities arrived at the residence the following day, they observed that her bed appeared to have been slept in, and all of her personal belongings were still present. Investigators believe that the women were taken sometime between 2:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on June 7.
