A senior pilot was reportedly asked to resign from SAA earlier this year after it was found that he had flown commercial airplanes for more than 20 years with a fake licence. SAA reportedly discovered that William Chandler's airline transport pilot licence had been forged.

Limpopo police commissioner, Nneke Ledwaba, says that they will effect more arrests on the brutal killing of Thoriso Themane. Nine teenagers, including a female, have been arrested in connection with the killing. 27 year old Themane was brutally assaulted and died in hospital. The attack happened at a park in Flora Park, Polokwane, last weekend. Ledwaba has received a memorandum of grievances from concerned community members.

Afriforum says it will approach the Equality Court in April as a “reluctant respondent” to oppose the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s application to have the old South African flag banned. The foundation made an application to the Equality Court for an order declaring that the gratuitous displays of the old official flag of apartheid South Africa constituted hate speech, unfair discrimination and harassment based on race. The matter is scheduled to be heard by the court on April 29 and 30

PUBLIC PROTECTOR TO NAME AND SHAME

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane today named and shamed dozens of organs of state that defy her remedial action directives. According to her office, there are more than 50 cases where her directives have not been implemented and judicial reviews have not been sought to have the implementations suspended in those cases. She said "The thousands of people who turn up at our doorstep do so as a last resort, having tried their best to find justice on their own. Worse, these are mostly people who would never take the state to court due to the prohibitive financial costs involved,"

Parliament’s trade and industry committee has called on trade and industry minister Rob Davies and other cabinet ministers to immediately intervene in whatever way possible to address the crisis in the sugar industry. The industry has been hit with cheap imports and the health promotion levy (sugary beverages tax), which has lowered the volume of sugar used by soft drink manufacturers. It has also been affected by a severe drought in KwaZulu-Natal over the past three years, which has cost the industry an estimated R2bn.

This follows a salary strike by workers of the cash-strapped Kopanong municipality. Workers also demand executive mayor and municipal manager to step down.

The murder case of Thoriso Themane will be back in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court in a week's time. Earlier, members of the public had gathered outside the court where six suspects were appearing. Themane was attacked by a group of youths on Saturday at a park in Polokwane. The sixth suspect who is also a learner was arrested this morning.
