The Verulam Water Crisis Committee has written to Minister Senzo Mchunu alerting him about their ongoing water challenges. Apparently, the community in the area experienced water shortages during the Easter Weekend and one resident from Trenance Park tragically lost his life while attempting to fetch water from a borehole. It is widely reported that while this resident was trying to lift a heavy water-laden drum, he suffered a devastating heart attack and subsequently died.

South African photographer, Tshepiso Mazibuko has been nominated for the Discovery Award at the Arles Photography Festival in France. Her project titled "Ho tshepa ntshepa ntshepedi ya bontshepe" explores the sociopolitical implications of the term 'born free', which refers to the generation of South African youth born after the first democratic elections in 1994. It will be exhibited next to the work of other selected photographers at the festival and the winner will get 15 000 Euros. Tshepiso is a product of the "Of Soul and Joy" programme and her photography documents everyday township life in Thokoza. What does this nomination mean to her? She joins us now on the line.

Botswana President, Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi has expressed sadness over the death of forty-five of its citizens in a bus crash in Limpopo. Over the past few weeks, we have been having discussions with various political parties, focusing on their economic policy proposals and today is no different as we are joined by Brett Herron, who is Good party’s Secretary General and Member of Parliament. During its election manifesto launch, the Good party unveiled a 10-point plan that it says will stop the suffering and fix South Africa for everyone as it seeks to correct the structure of the economy. Among other things, the party promises to introduce a labour-intensive comprehensive urban management programme which aims to provide massive employment opportunities, while at the same time developing a skills base in critical areas of maintenance and urban management.
