As the 2022 academic year begins, the Competition Commission of South Africa has urged all schools, School Governing Bodies, community structures, parents and government to comply with the guidelines on school uniform. The Commission has published an educational pamphlet on the role that schools, SGBs and parents can play to help lower the price of school uniform and other learning-related material.

SAA's interim board says that it intends instituting internal investigations and disciplinary processes with the aim of "cleaning the company of all vestiges of its shameful past". This follows the release of part one of the Zondo Commission's report. The board goes on to say that this is in line with its fiduciary responsibility and legal obligations under the Public Finance Management Act.

As the bidding for the licensing tender for the next five years of ground handling service operators closes on 18 February 2022, Swissport may be allowed to bid despite being mentioned at the commission.

After outrage over Nelson Mandela’s prison cell key going on auction. Prison guard and friend of former President Nelson Mandela, Christo Brand, says he has asked the US-based Guernsey's Auction House to withdraw Mandela's Robben Island prison cell key from its planned auction - due to sensitivities surrounding the key. The prison key was one of several items of Mandela memorabilia that was due to be auctioned off on 28 January before Guernsey's halted its plans. Brand denies that he was going to profit from the sale of the key – instead, claiming that he was only auctioning the key to raise funds for a Mandela Memorial Garden in Qunu after he was contacted by the late struggle icon's eldest daughter, Dr. Makaziwe Mandela, last year.

KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC, Mrs Nonhlanhla Khoza, has strongly condemned gang raping of a senior citizen at Maoti, Inanda, north of Durban. The senior citizen later passed away at a police station when she went to report her ordeal on Wednesday. Khoza has urged the residents of Maoti to work closely with the police to arrest the group of young boys involved in the rape.
