The City of Cape Town is in the process of promulgating the Unlawful Occupation By-law. The bylaw deals with the management of public places and seeks to prevent the unlawful or illegal occupation of land and buildings in Cape Town. Organizations such as the Social Justice Coalition, Reclaim The City, Ndifuna Ukwazi, Abahlali base Mjondolo, Housing Assembly and Tshisimani have rejected the City's new draft by-law, saying these are repeated efforts to criminalise the country's most vulnerable. Submissions for comments on the draft by-law closed this past weekend on the 31st of July.
