An up-and-coming director named Steven Spielberg remarked that comic book superhero movies will go the way the of the western, implying that their day in the sun is all but over. Meanwhile, an equally little-known director named Zack Snyder disagreed, saying that characters like Batman and Superman are Shakespearian and will be in popular culture indefinitely in one form or another.

We're not filmmakers, but we're still going to try and discuss this topic as if we know exactly how Hollywood works. Specifically, we're going to talk about how the Deadpool movie might be so different that it will successfully push superhero movies into a new era. An era where we don't have to have incredibly formulaic and predictable comic book movies. But that's only if the movie makes money...

Comic book movies all seem to expect a franchise to be made from them. Because of that, they tend to make the first movie an origin story of the superhero in question. But should they? 

Should comic book movies instead just focus on telling a good story in a world where the hero is already established and not feel the need to force feed the audience a character's comprehensive backstory? Or should they make sure that everyone is on the same page by spending lots of time on the origin to make sure nothing is left in question?

The stars have finally aligned, and Trailer Drake is finally on the podcast to talk about his origin on YouTube!

Drake talks about how he got started making videos, work with MatPat and the other Game Theorists, and his exploration into the world of comic books that spawned his Comic Drake channel! He also discusses his shows like Crossover and Unpopular Opinions, as well as provides some insight about how and why he chose to make a lot of his videos in the style of cartoons and voice overs.

Today we're treating you to something a little different. I was lucky enough to be invited on to The Superhero Podcast not once, but twice! We saw FOX's latest failure at a Fantastic Four film that foreshadows a familiarly fruitless franchise for Marvel's First Family that left us feeling fairly forlorn. But seriously, it wasn't good.

That being said, we're not here to hate on it for an hour of your life. Instead, we humbly offer our suggestions and ideas for how to craft a good Fantastic Four movie.

Should it be live-action or animated? Should it take place in modern day or in the past? Who should the villains be? Origin story or no origin story? We discuss our thoughts about all these questions and more! Pay attention, FOX. This one's for you!

We went to VidCon, and it was a BLAST!!! We met up with some great friends, we saw some of our favorite YouTubers, Chris broke his shoulder, it was a magical time!
