I feel like this podcast may be one of the most important shows we have ever done. Our guest is Crisis Guide, Keith Page. As you will soon discover, Keith talks about stuff that no one "wants' to talk about, but everyone "needs" to talk about, especially in times of crisis and loss.
Keith Page is a Builder. He makes stuff happen… Keith brings to us more than thirty years of walking through life with others. He is known for his empathy and compassion when he "holds space" as a witness to our times of grief… as well as times of discovery.

Show Notes #306 Courtney Marchesani
Today's guest, Courtney Marchesani, is one of my very favorites. I think she has been on the show four times over the past six years!
Courtney is the author of the popular book Four Gifts of the Highly Sensitive. Her insights into sensitivity help readers identify their gifts of intuition, empathy, vision, and expression as a means to maximize their potential.
As you will soon discover, Courtney's empathic style emphasizes nonjudgement and acceptance and learning how sensitivity's silent effects can impact mental, emotional, spiritual health and wellness.

After a three-month break from doing podcasts, we're back. I am very much looking forward to our new season. You know, I needed a time of intentional pondering about what I might like to do in my final chapter of what I call "a life richly lived." This year, in September, I turn 75. Three quarters of a century. Enough time to live a life meaning, adventure, and awe—which has been the theme the of The Next Chapter with Charlie for the past 9 years.
After considering the purpose of my web presence, the theme of meaning, adventure, and awe continues… but perhaps with a renewed and personally vibrant focus. In my most recent couple of blogs, I have written about the American vacuum regarding something to trust, something to hang our hats on, or an anchor in our wild seas of politics, news media, and vacuous religion.
Yes, at 75, God, the Spirit of Life is not yet finished with me. My present calling is to engage in conversations of ultimate meaning and purpose, mostly having to do with the heart—that force which has driven humankind for millennia.
As you know, I am a contemplative follower of the late medieval Christian mystics who spoke in the language of the heart, guiding people to experience everyday life in a spirit wonder and meaning and service.
*****
So that leads to our first guest on our newly directed version of the Next Chapter with Charlie.
So, it should not be surprising that today's guest is a poet and a mystic… with eyes not on the ethereal but on the practical, everyday vision of life in the arms of love.
Steve Garnaas-Holmes is a gift to all of us. He writes of himself, quite simply and quite humbly…
"I'm a retired United Methodist pastor. I often lead retreats on prayer, poetry, and renewing our language about God. I am trying to be… here… now..." which means Steve, in the words of our dear friend Terry Hershey, lives intentionally in "the Sacrament of the Present Moment."
Personally, I am loving his commitment to "renewing our language about God." As a culture, we are in need of a fresh and relevant language about love and presence.

Podcast Opening
I have an important announcement to make today. This week we are beginning a two-month break on the Podcast and the Blog for the Next Chapter with Charlie. We will be most silent for the next two months, December 2023 thru January 2024. We will begin again the second week of February.
The time has come to Reconsider our purpose and our goals. For more than 9 years of blogs and 6 years of podcasts, our primary focus has been on In Search of Meaning, Adventure, and Awe. I am pleased with the work we have done. More than 300 podcasts and over 450 blogs.
However, as we approach a full decade of service, I feel that have grown significantly and I have learned even more about what I call "the purpose of life and the role of the fingerprint of God in all we do."
We are living in a culture of confusion. Something is missing in life. And most of us are not even sure what that is.
It's time to talk about it. I intend to devote the next two months to creating a strategy for discussing how to Awaken within Each of Us a More Loving World.
So today I have asked my dear friend, Wendy Hooper Ross, to partner with me in discussion as she interviews me regarding my mission in life and with the Next Chapter with Charlie.

I planned and prepared for our podcast today. And come showtime I was ready to roll.
One problem: Exactly at showtime, there was no guest to be found. Who knows why?
Instead of just cancelling the studio time, I made a quick call to Terry Hershey who immediately said, "What are friends for? Let's do the show!"
So, here we are with a fun show. No prep. Little direction.
Just a title from a Krista Tippett quote: "We plan… and things go wrong."

Our guest today is so fun. My personal assistant, the amazing Melissa DeLacey, loves Nikki and so will you after you hear what she has to say.
Nikki La Croce is yet another of those rule-breaking millennials. Just so you know, I love the Gen Z's and Millennials who bring to us a refreshed sense of passion and purpose… with values that are both traditional as well as shocking. So fun!!!
Regarding a bit shocking… Nikki hosts a popular podcast with the title of "Who the F*ck?" Soon to be rebranded "Who the F*ck Am I?" Just the "name" of her show offers a bit of the edgy style of creative and loving people in the Gen Z and Millennial camps.
Her primary focus is all about human connection with a primary emphasis on the vehicle of "conversation."

DON'T MISS THIS EPISODE!
Our fascinating guest today is a game-changer in progressive psychiatric treatments to manage mental issues like anxiety and depression and ADHD.
Dan Karlin is the Chief Medical Officer of a company called MindMed, whose mission is to improve patient outcomes by unlocking the full therapeutic potential of psychedelics and other novel therapeutic targets.
So yes. Today's show is all about psychedelics and improvements in mental health.
As a hippie in the 1960's I am not unfamiliar with LSD and psilocybin. So I have plenty of questions. Dan has plenty of responses.
Just a bit on our guest: Dr Dan Karlin joined MindMed as Chief Medical Officer in February 2021 following MindMed's acquisition of HealthMode, the company he co-founded and led as CEO. Prior to HealthMode, Dan served as the Global Clinical Lead at Pfizer. He is Board certified in Psychiatry and Addictive Medicine.
In other words, Dan Karlin knows what he is talking about. So, let's bring him on the show.

Our guest, Logan Crow, is the founder of The Frida Cinema, the only non-profit art house cinema in Orange County, CA.
Logan Crow, an avid and lifelong film lover, with an affinity for horror, cult, avant-garde, and genre cinema. He has distinguished himself as one of Southern California's preeminent advocates for film and art house cinema.
I am very much looking forward to our chat. You probably don't know that I am a huge fan of the movies, especially those films that may be considered a bit "avant-garde." I go "the movies"… probably once a week… maybe more…
That's why I can't wait for my discussion with Logan about film and the world of art house cinema.
