  • #248 Judy Gaman: The Perspectives of a Centenarian

    Show Notes

I’d like to encourage our listeners to sit back and enjoy. Because today will be a special conversation with a very special guest.

Our most delightful guest today, Judy Gaman, is here to talk with us about the subjects of friendship and the power of perspective—lessons she learned from her friendship with a woman over 100 years old. She has a most engaging book on their friendship titled, Love, Life, and Lucille: Lessons from a Centenarian.

Judy’s views on friendship are fresh and powerful, with many lessons for all of us. I am so looking forward to our discussion because Judy is a highly accomplished author, radio show host, podcaster, and has worked for more than 25 years in the healthcare industry. Most recently as the CEO of Executive Medicine of Texas.

Today will be all about just a couple lessons she learned from 103 year old Lucille and I am anxious to bring her on the air.

    So let’s get to it…

  • Hearing and Healing Your Inner Child

Tune in again to Charlie's incredible talk with Shasheen Shah on managing your inner most self.  As wrote about in his book THE KID AND THE KING.  And through his work with high achieving CEOs and maverick entrepreneurs as the Founder of Coherent Strategies.  And see if you can hear more clearly the call (and cries) of your inner child.

As Charlie continues his work in Uganda for Wells of Life.  Returning next week with a full report of what he saw, heard and did there this trip.

  • REVISIT Michaela Renee Johnson

While Charlie is in Africa (working on the WELLS OF LIFE charity project), let's revisit some of our most popular recent guests. Like Michaela Renee Johnson.

Michaela Renee Johnson practices and preaches a life of excitement, joy and (most of all) happiness.  Which leads Charlie to happily remind us all in this episode that "yes, we are STILL allowed to pursue happiness...even in these troubled and turbulent times!"

Michaels is a breath of fresh air in this episode. And a true "happiness expert". Having built a whole movement around this topic through her book "Be You, Be Happy".  Along with all the workshops, seminars and coaching she's added as well. Complimenting her work as a psychotherapist, life coach and happy podcaster.

So BE YOU, BE HAPPY. And hear again her joyful journey towards finding the everyday happiness in her own life.  As Charlie pursues his own path of personal happiness in Africa as a happy "water warrior", drilling water wells in Uganda for those without this most basic human need (clean water).

  • #246 Stephanie Allen: Discover Your Artistic Identity

    Show Notes

We are in for a real treat today. I have already spent nearly three hours of discussion regarding Your Artistic Identity with our very special guest, Dr. Stephanie Allen. My problem today is not regarding “what I want to talk about,” but what I have to leave out because Stephanie has so much wisdom to share.

Stephanie Allen holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota. She teaches violin to students of all ages in her school Violin Technique Coaching.

But Stephanie’s expertise is not exclusively regrading violin or music in general. She teaches anyone how to bring your inherent art form out of hiding someplace within. And she is a master at her craft!

Stephanie is committed to preserving both the artist and the art. She writes this, “Music is in my DNA. I have a beautiful lineage of musicians in my family. But the art of mastery is not something you can inherit. It is a path that is studied, practiced, learned, and explored. It is an intentional path. Often, the art of mastery is a path that is wrought with pain, fear, performance anxiety, and abuse. But it does not have to be. Mastery demands structure and regimen, but it does not demand fear or stress.

Stephanie is a master artist who has developed a brilliant methodology for teaching violin and for helping artists in general how to thrive in their art. And oh, by the way, Stephanie believes that every single one of us possesses that artist within. We will talk about that.

  • #245 NEW Lindsay Davis- Clues for a Meaningful and Memorable Life

    Show Notes

Just about one month ago we did a show with one of my very favorite people, Creative Business and Performance Coach, Lindsay Davis. For those interested, that was show #238 on the very important subject of Detachment. It was all about how to emotionally detach from stress-inducing situations.

As we neared the end of the episode, we realized that a follow-up session might be very helpful and offer clarity on a subject very dear to all of us: how do we discover our purpose in life. Now… this is a tricky discussion because there seems (to me) to be two kinds of purposes: One is that general purpose of simply being a good person (you know, with strong values and engaging relationships), but the second kind of purpose is frequently much more difficult to discover. And that is: What is YOUR Personal Purpose.

That is what we will talk about today with Lindsay Davis—who has most helpful thoughts on how to discover “clues to making your life meaningful and memorable.”

  • #244 Rand Sperry: Making the Most of the Years that Matter Most

    Show Notes

Well, it’s my first day back from 3 weeks in Portugal. I am rested and ready to go. Today’s show is sort of a last-minute idea because we feared I would be hampered by jetlag, but that is not the case.

I am so happy to say that my dear friend, Rand Sperry was available to have a discussion on a subject very dear to both of us—basically it’s all about how to optimize “old age” before you reach “Old, old age.” Haha

In the 2020’s we have an entirely different concept of old age than we did 50 years ago. 50 years ago, 60 was considered old. Today that is not the case. In fact, I am not even sure what we consider to be “old age” now days—certainly not before 80 years old.

In two months, I will be 73 and I feel as if I am at least 20 years younger. In fact, I am in what I consider to be the most golden years of life. I call these years my “Autumn” which I will explain later in the show.

So let’s bring on the very youthful Rand Sperry to talk about “Making the Most of the Years that Matter Most.”

  • #243 Pam and Charlie: Two Different Ideas for a Holiday

    Show Notes

Hey Paul. We are so fortunate today to have as a guest my “reluctant to do podcasts” wife. After more than 200 episodes she has come on the show with me only one time—and that was from Italy, probably 3 or 4 years ago.

Today is special. We haven’t seen each other in more than 10 days and have probably talked on the phone only three times… because she and her friends have been sooo busy.

Pam and I have different ideas of the ideal vacation. Although I do like some activity and sightseeing, I must have time to rest and do nothing. Pam’s idea of rest only comes with the need to sleep, otherwise she is busy doing something.

While I have been in Portugal alone, Pam has been in the UK with her sister, niece, and daughter-in-law. The have been to Scotland, Wales, Bath, and London in about 9 days. Yikes! I’d need hours of therapy to recover.

So, let’s compare notes, both about our trips and what is important in life. And… by the way… you are going to love Pam!

  • #242 Charlie in Lisbon: Adventures in Solitude

    Show Notes

Hey Paul. Today, instead of sitting with you in studio, right now I am sitting on my sofa in my apartment in Lisbon, Portugal. I was out today roaming the town and finding myself surrounded by throngs of tourists. Man, I have a distaste for crowds. And I do have a bit of frustration with tourists that expect nationals to behave in ways that suit their personal desires.

Life is different in a foreign country and, truthfully, that is precisely what makes a foreign country so attractive—it is “foreign.”

This is a different kind of trip for me. I am spending more time in my apartment than usual, seeing fewer sights that usual because I am reading and writing. Still, I do not feel the same as I do at home.

Different “home” with different people, foods, and habits.

Please join Paul and me for an update on “Adventures in Solitude in Lisbon.”
