  • #194 Terry Hershey Soul Gardening: Nourishing Your Innermost Self

    Show Notes

Today my friend Terry Hershey and I talk about his book, Soul Gardening, which after having written sixteen books, this one is his favorite. I have a feeling it is his favorite because it just might be a faithful autobiography of a man in search… of himself of what it means to embrace life on planet earth.

The closing words of his book tells it all… “People who love this world, those who pay attention, are all gardeners. Because gardening is not just about digging or planting. Gardening is about cherishing.”

    Delightful.

Let’s bring on Terry to tell us more.

  • #188 Donna Francart: “I’ve Seen Dead People”

    Show Notes

Sometimes the next chapter in life involves a radical move. Our guest today is a perfect example. Donna Francart transitioned from an Executive Travel Agent to becoming a Deputy Coroner. Today we talk about Donna’s new book I’ve Seen Dean People: Diary of a Deputy Coroner.

In our lively conversation Donna tells us about life as a Deputy Coroner, visions of death, and poignant insights into the meaning of life and death.

In what may seem like a darker subject, I think you will be surprised how engaging and meaningful our conversation is.

  • #187 Dr Jacqueline DuPont: Ageism and the Modern Family

    Show Notes

We have a very important social issue in our culture today that receives little press, or… really… any kind of attention… Except to those in the middle of it: Care for our Aging population. Especially those with that require medical, professional or just more regular personal attention.

On today’s show we have gerontologist and dedicated advocate of society’s disenfranchised, Dr Jacque DuPont. Jacque is so uniquely gifted. She demonstrates that rare combination of superior intelligence with an overwhelming heart of compassion.

On this episode of the Next Chapter with Charlie Jacque guides me through the critical issues of dementia and other disabilities common to people in the closing chapters of aging. And she offers insights into how adult children can manage these issues.

The first thing, Jacque suggests, is to find it in our hearts to recognize both the humanity and the dignity that all human beings deserve.

Our podcast today is one of the most insightful shows we have ever done.

  • #186 Terry Hershey: Talking to Ourselves

    Show Notes

Today Terry Hershey and I explore one possible reason that America is a radically divided country. And each side is firmly convinced that they are right, as each will cite “supposed factual information” in support of their beliefs.

But… information itself is not the problem. It’s about the source of our information.

One of the big reasons for our strong battle lines just may be that our information is too biased. We tend to rely only on information that supports the stance we have already agreed upon. Therefore we end up talking to ourselves.

Is a middle ground even possible? In this podcast Terry and I really wrestle with trying to figure out some way to have bi-partisan dialogue.

I hope you enjoy two guys stumbling around in hope of discovering a common ground. I think we almost get there… in the second half of the episode.

See for yourself as we welcome Terry.

  • From the Archives Jenn Bork: "Feeling" Fully Alive

    Show Notes

Today I really look forward to the show, not so much because of the fascinating content but more because of our ultra fascinating guest… my dear, dear brilliant friend, Jennifer Bork.

Now, Jenn comes to us with no breathtaking resume, has authored no books, has no blog, podcast or business that places her atop the so-called social scale of that which most Americans secretly strive for.

Instead, Jenn Bork is a wife of Jon Bork, mother of two amazing children August and Tessa, a Facebook Make up guru, and a gym and boxing fanatic … but mostly Jennifer is a woman with as much practical wisdom as anyone I know.

Jennifer and I worked very closely together in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Officially she was Executive Director of my company, but truly she did her best job as my creative muse. Apart from my wife, no one “gets me” like Jennifer. She understands both my personal strengths as well as my core pathologies that drive half of what I do and I think.

So today, Jenn and I will have a somewhat rambling conversation, catching up, after nearly a decade of very brief contact, as we brainstorm the meaning of life for the average individual and l most likely will slip into discussion about the impacts and learnings from months of quarantine.
