The Auburn Tigers and The Alabama Crimson Tide both advanced to the Sweet 16 over the weekend, Auburn Basketball to Atlanta and Alabama Basketball is off to Newark.
Auburn advanced after rebounding from the "embarrassing performance" against Alabama State in round one by outscoring the Creigthon Blue Jays by 14 in the second half to erase a two point halftime deficit. Tahaad Pettiford was spectacular off the bench with 23 points to lead Auburn.
Up next for the Tigers are the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan Basketball advanced after a 91-79 win over The Texas A&M Aggies.
Did Auburn get their swagger back? This the first Sweet 16 since the Final Four run of 2019.
The Alabama Crimson Tide is back in the Sweet 16 after an 80-66 win over Saint Mary's. Alabama Basketball had to rebound from a sluggish round one performance as well. The Tide had double digits from six different players and never trailed in the second half.
Alabama now faces The BYU Cougars in the Sweet 16. BYU Basketball advances after a 91-89 thriller over The Wisconsin Badgers.
Did Alabama save their best defensive performance for March? Just like last year?
This is the first time in 40 years Auburn and Alabama have been in the Sweet 16 together.
The SEC was dominant over the weekend, placing seven total teams in the NCAA Tournament, a record. in addition to Auburn and Alabama, Arkansas Basketball, Florida Basketball, Tennessee Basketball, Ole Miss Basketball and Kentucky Basketball all advanced to the round of 16.
