  • Growing Up With Transitions IV: Untitled 1

The time has come my friends to put another season to bed. But, what better way is there to wrap up a Nicnacjak Podcast Season then a fourth installment of Growing Up With Transitions? This time around I attempt to guarantee downloads by telling you that I am a genius who will die someday. I also muse about the building blocks of a life that makes you “as comfortable as possible” until you finely kick it. It sounds odd but I really am enjoying this “bucket list” philosophy.

So with the season all done I leave you to look forward to the second half of FSRideAlong season 1 (ep 14-22 at least). I also will tell you that I am thinking of starting a talk show style podcast with transportation simulation being the topic. If you would like to work for free as a co-host for a 13 episode commitment. Please let me know.

Other than that peace be with you. Look for The Nicnacjak Podcast Season 4 between now and January 2011. Send me emails telling me to get off my ass and come back should you not here from me before then.

  • Another Brick in The Wall Part II

So I wanted to move on really I did. But, I've been trying to get money to go back to school (hint hint donate button) and in frustration I posted the following on Facebook:

What do you mean I can't get a Pell Grant because I already have a Bachelors? The BA isn't doing me any ruddy good! Could you at least give me a damn program that fixes that? Or better yet, one that forgives the loans that I have already that I haven’t been able to pay due,  in part, to the economic shit storm that some assholes from Texas and Arkansas created?

In reply our buddy that inspired last weeks episode (I guess I really should thank him ha) psoted the following: Why don't you just directly ask Americans to pay for your education? If America were socialized/st they would be paying you out of the taxes of Americans. Why don't you just go door to door telling your neighbors that because you can't find a job it is therefore their responsibility to give you money for student loans? Who knows, it just might work...

Not bad advise I must say. Anyone want to donate money so I can go back to school?

    Now that I've done that...

Dear lame conservative Rush Limbaugh loving asshole,

They paid for K-12. That is socialized education. I make fun of it a lot but our education system is the best example of a socialized system and I think it works well most of the time.

The trouble is people are greedy money obsessed buggers. Employers want more for less; consumers want more for less. That’s why shity companies like Wal-Mart do so well. Everyone get ripped off except the boss.

So you won't get hired for a good paying gig with a public education alone as it stands today. This means that many people have to pay to attend colleges out of their own pocket. And, while there are many publicly subsidized institutions of higher learning, the costs not covered by subsidiaries are staggering, especially in current times, and especially for those who

  • Episode 20 We Don't Need No Education; All and All Your Just Another Brick In The Wall

Well I was done with my US bashing. Or at least I was, until I made a self depracating joke and somone took it the wrong way. Now the can of worms is open again. Fox News thought it was mad at Paul MccCartney for he recent comments about Bush and his unfamiliiarirty with libraries. Just wait until they get a hold of this!

The main topic this week? Education. It is the best social program we have in the States. Conservatives are very proud of it. So why do they find it so hard to support social healthcare?? This and other things I wonder.

I also include a saulute to Art Bell. The man who got me into broadcasting at 1am to 30 people.

  • Season 3 Episode 19 England Postmortem

In this episode I do a quick review of my trip to England, what lead up to it and my reactions to the trip. Moving forward, I begin to discuss my plans that have come as a result of this trip and reflect upon how they may impact the rest of my life.

There are very strong opinions and language contained within this episode. If you are offended please remember that the greatest love for the United States can best be expressed by burning a flag on Independence Day. Think about it…

If you don’t get it…the first amendment to The United States Constitution reads as follows:  “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

What better way is there to peaceably assemble and petition the Government for a redress of grievance?

I live for simulated flights in beautiful planes such as these. So sit back relax and enjoy the biscuits as we ride to the bay area from the north Sacramento Valley.

Due to limited production time the audio may be poor in some spots. If you complain enough I may edit an rerelease

  • England Trip Journal

Yesterday afternoon at 14:44pm PDT, the main gear of my Boeing 747-400 operated by British Airways as Flight 285 from EGLL to KSFO touched down on rwy 28L at San Francisco International Airport. I had departed San Francisco International nineteen days prior at 17:16pm from London Heathrow.

After arriving in Heathrow and leaving my backpack at Passport Control (annoyed grunt), I took a National Express Coach to Manchester where I stayed until the night of May 8th, when a hotel shortage forced me on a train to Liverpool in hopes of finding suitable lodging.

Once in Liverpool, I connected with my friends Richard and Rachael and worked out suitable places to stay in Ashton-Under-Lynn, Rochdale and Widnes. I was in Ashton-Unde-Lynn for four days glued to the BBC as I tried to figure out the results of the recent national election. My thoughts: Nick Clegg good David Cameron bad. If the coalition government doesn’t work, I hope the British People can hold another election that establishes a majority party to lead the country soon. My vote would be Labor or Lib-Dem. Maybe a Labor Lib-Dem coalition would be good?

After Ashton-Under-Lynn I moved on to Rochdale where I stayed with The Rudds from May 13th to the 18th. During this time I enjoyed many English meals, lots of tea and helped with the Sky Blue Radio third birthday bash. I also took a trip to the National Rail Museum in York. They have a real castle there! It was outstanding!

After Rochdale, I moved on to Widnes where I stayed with Rachael from May 18th to May 22nd. During my time there, I visited with her family in Runcorn, paid homage to John Lennon and The Beatles in Woolton (Beatles Square), and enjoyed a bit of down time.

On the evening of the 22nd I caught a Virgin train from Liverpool to London Euston. I then transferred to The Underground (where they did indeed tell me to “mind the gap”) which took me back the Heathrow Terminal 5. Due to poor planning and a lack of money I spent the night of the 22nd and the 23rd in Terminal 5 of London Heathrow. As bad as this was it did give me a great chance to do some plane spotting. Got to see an A380 land! How cool is that! Singapore Airlines no less the launch customer for the A380!

Finely the dreaded time came. At about 1150am BST I was herded onto British Airways Flight 285 on the way back to San Francisco. I knew I was home when the 747-400 flew past The Golden Gate Bridge at 6,000ft. But, as much as I love my city by the bay, and boy do I, there is no place on Earth like England. And really, there are very few places (San Francisco, Seattle, Melbourne, Sydney) I’d rather be then The Northwest of England.

If all goes well I hope to make a return trip this next winter and maybe even make a move over there in the next two years or so. This podcast is made up of my thoughts and comments during the trip. I stand by everything that I have said. And, would be happy to do it all over again. Though, more planning and communications would be required. To all you home ridden Yanks out there I implore you to travel and challenge our countries arrogant assumption that it is the best damn thing to grace the face of the Earth. Simply put, this notion is bollocks, humbug, bullshit, your term for rubbish here!

  • Season 3 Ep 18 The USA Sucks. The Commonwealth of Nations Rules. End of Bloody Story! (Part 4 Live)

This the main part of my England podcast travel journal. It serves as SE 3 EP 18 as well as the 4th part of my England travel journal. It was recorded after spending about a week and a half in England and seeing how they live on the "greener" side of the pond. This episode really gives I Wish I were an Englishman or Something of That Accord from Season 2 some teeth.  The UK really is everything I had hoped for and more. And no, I didn't steal John Lennon's rose colured glasses. But, thanks for asking.

A full travel journal will hit the web in the later part of next week.

BTW a $1.42 from each listener covers the cost of this podcast so please:

  • Season 3 Episode 17 It’s all Too Much

I don’t think George Harrison pictured the landscape of my world when he wrote that song, but, it is very apropos to my current state of being. Here I give you but a glimpse of my life. Including updated and rapidly approaching London plans, San Francisco trip reports (one visit for a Giants Game another for Remake Camp) and some thoughts on politics and community building. More content based on community building and politics to come after England. And lastly, there is an update on my plans to get an Aircraft Dispatcher license.
