Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced the Federal Government will change the law to better protect the information of Australians who remain in the My Health Record system.

"We need to be able to talk...a frank discussion about making sure that we are paying our fair share and that we respect our obligation to contribute to the tax system and do we have enough revenue collected as a community to make sure that every kid...is not particularly disadvantaged," Ms Goldie said.

"The growing rate of child poverty in Australia...we're not doing what we should be doing," she said.

A European Union court's decision to treat new Genetic Manipulation (GM) techniques dubbed CRISPR, the same way as old transgenic GM techniques has divided the international farming community. Under the ruling, the EU could potentially ban the importation of any produce subjected to CRISPR.

In contrast, several Australian authorities are allegedly pushing for the deregulation of certain GM techniques and products, a move Gene Ethics Executive Director, Bob Phelps staunchly disagrees with.

Mr Phelps told Chris he believes more research needs to be conducted into the long term effects of new GM techniques.
