Today on the Nila Extract, I’m pleased to welcome Maharani, a singer of Indian Tamil descent born and raised in the Netherlands, who entrancingly combines RnB and Trap-soul with unique stylistic choices that represent her South-Asian heritage. This London-based singer showcases strong Carnatic elements in her music, imbibed with the styles of Taylor swift and Hayley Williams, and I am so incredibly glad to have her on the show. We talk about South Asian music, and its combination with Western styles to create new, innovative and exciting blends that will undoubtedly take the industry by storm. I also delve into generalisations and imposing stereotypes, and what inclusion means in the South Asian community.

This Filipina-Sri Lankan singer-songwriter seeks out and successfully embodies the phenomenal talents of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, even titled ‘London’s latest musical maverick’ in accordance with Wonderland Magazine!
