The Nostalgia Pit episodes

  • I Like the Cut of Your Hoojib w/ Wordburgler

Today we welcome in the illustrious Canadian orator known as Wordburglar. Originally hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Burgie is now representing Toronto, dominating the nerdosphere and representing his country with the finest of artwork.

Growing up a comic book nerd (which clearly shows through his music), we invited him here to talk about a lifelong goal coming to fruition. The Wordburglar Rhymes with Comics #1 Graphic Novel & Soundtrack is a fusion of his two favorite things: comics and raps. With a Kickstarter live at the time of this recording and release, we implore you to go support and check out all of his art. Links are in the description.

And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! Today, we discuss classic N64 video games, eugenics, and substances at music festivals. Quite the spectrum…

We also have some merch for sale up on our Etsy, as well as a limited run of embroidered beanies out now! Only a few left… Shoot us a DM on IG if you’re interested.

  • Duh Pesch Mode

Today, we have a helluva episode for you. For those who are fans of hip hop, this one may feel like getting a wisdom tooth removed… But for those of you who are starfuckers out there, this one should be a lot of fun.

We welcome our monthly resident Drinks w/ Ron back in to do a bracket based solely on celebrities who attempted rap music. Whether trying to launch an entire career in the genre, or perhaps just doing it for shits-and-giggles, we’re pitting some of the best and brightest up against each other for a battle royale of sorts.

That’s not all we talk about of course. Rob started watching Fringe, which led us to a very important question of the day: is JJ Abrams good? Weigh in in the comments if you have an opinion on that one…

And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! Today, we discuss the origin of the phrase “hell in a handbasket” as well as what the hell a Spaghett is. Amongst other things of course…

We also have some merch for sale up on our Etsy, as well as a limited run of embroidered beanies out now! Only a few left… Shoot us a DM on IG if you’re interested.

  • Schultzy's Lament

Today, we decided to go against the sage advice of a good friend, and do what many would not. If you may recall we had a guest Matt Goodwin on an episode a bit ago entitled Barefeet in the Moshpit… In this episode, we discussed Matt’s dabblings in Hollywood and some of the works he acted in…

One of these films was released in 2006 and was titled Treasures of Painted Forest… Matt was quite adamant that we do NOT watch this film. So, of course, Rob and I did the exact opposite of the recommendation and fired it up for a special edition of Rob’s Reviews.

Besides reviewing the movie, we also talked about the new Alchemist & Erykah Badu project, robotheism, and the $100,000 bill.

And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! Today, however, we decided to give the whole world the whole episode! BUT! If you are itching to listen, it is still available over 24 hours early.

We also have some merch for sale up on our Etsy, as well as a limited run of embroidered beanies out now! Only a few left… Shoot us a DM on IG if you’re interested.

  • Mood Rings & Dolphin Tears w/ Melanie

Boy, have we got an episode for you… Not only do we discuss Goosebumps knockoffs like Shivers and Graveyard School, but we also talk Korean corndogs, mood rings, and the illustrious wordplay of one Bob Dylan.

But, that’s not why we’re here today. Today we had to bring in the wonderful brain of Melanie in order to Spelunk the 1994 smash hit I Only Wanna Be With You by Hootie & The Blowfish. As you can imagine, the conversation steers into many things, such as court jesters, phrasal etymology, and Nick News.

PLUS! We have a very, very special song we are debuting at the end of this episode. Never before heard by the listening public, we have none other than the newest single from our very own Rob Snow aka Araless aka The Boy Wonder (the last nickname I totally made up but three names sounds more alluring than two, so…). The song is called Lights & Sounds off his newest project Nemesis coming out later this year. So make sure you stay tuned til the end.

And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! Today, we discuss the Little Giants, Alphabots, and Twin Peaks.

  • Aspic Ratio

Where does your brain go when you think the words perfection salad? I imagine, the first thing you think of is celery, apple juice and pimentos all encased in a thick layer of gelatin… Cause OBVIOUSLY, that is perfection, right?

Have you ever skimmed through an old cook book and wondered what the hell was going on in the 50s, 60s, and 70s? Well, I have! So that’s why it’s Snack Attack time. We look at dozens of “delicious” recipes from yesteryear including but not limited to: chicken en gelee, shrimp singapore, jellied veal rings, and of course, non fattening laxative mayo.. My stomach is just rumbling thinking of these delicacies…

PATREON EXCLUSIVE: we discuss Sublime’s hit Caress Me Down, Alexander the Great, and the rise of facism amongst other things. Important stuff all around…

  • Lasagna in my Winnebago

You know what time it is! It’s bracket time folks! Ron’s in the house and he decided to surprise us with a topic neither Rob nor myself knew of. So, to our delight and surprise, we got a battle of legends from the found footage world. That’s right. It’s Winnebago Man vs. Fred the Carver. No bells being rung by those names? No worries, you’ll soon fall in love.

But that’s not all, of course. We also discuss George Lucas’s absurd grudge, McDonalds mascots, and Happy Gilmore 2. Rob also issues one of his patented reviews of the 1993 cult classic Surf Ninjas. All that, and a bag of chips, here in The Nostalgia Pit.

PATREON EXCLUSIVE: We get a Limited Recall slash navel gaze as Colin looks into some of his old musical endeavors. We also look into pink cocaine, laugh tracks, and Eastbound & Down outtakes.

  • Botticelli the Dolphin w/ MADSHROOM MC

Well folks, put on those shoulder length gloves that Laura Dern wears in Jurassic Park, cause it’s Probin’ Time! This one here, is the deepest… the darkest… the craziest amount of research I have done for any episode yet. The lengths, depths, and girths that I went to to find out what the hell Ecco the Dolphin is really about… Holy mackerel.

If you never played the 1992 smash hit game exclusively for the Sega systems, you missed out. And if you did play the game, you probably remember it’s immensely difficult and confusing puzzles. But if you happened to be one of the few that beat the game?! You were an elite gamer with the most patient of demeanors.

Think Free Willy meets The Terminator meets Alien… Take all of that and wrap it in one of Jimi Hendrix’s acid soaked bandanas, and you are right where you need to be… Plus! A very special happy birthday to Rob! Love ya buddy. Plus! We welcome back our spleen! That’s right, Kevin Siplin is in the house!

  • Barefeet in the Moshpit w/ Matt Goodwin

Today we welcome in a very special guest: the one, the only Matt Goodwin! You may recognize Matt from some of his musical endeavors like The Bad Tenants, or perhaps from one of his acting endeavors like Kung Fun Games (out now on Amazon Prime). But Matt, Rob and I go way back, so needless to say, we are very excited to have him on.

Besides his dabbling in film and music, we also discuss bagels, toxic masculinity, and the racist nature of Star Wars. Plus, we dig into the X Files and Matt’s history with the program. All that, and more!

PATREON EXCLUSIVE: We venture into Snack Attack land to discuss the Pizza Wars of the 90s. Not familiar? All I can say is: blood was shed.

  • If AI... Then BM!

It’s season 5! Holy cow! Wait… Why isn’t it a holy pig? Or a holy goat? I should probably look up the etymology before continuing to use any phrase these days… Regardless, we’re back after the shortest hiatus ever to bring you another season of malarkey.

As we’re back, we decided to spelunk the 1997 smash hit Everybody (Backstreet’s Back). For 28 years, I’ve wondered where they came back from… A trip to Spain? Cancun? A hiatus? The confused child in me has always wanted to know, so you know what?! We did some deep diving to find you the TRUTH.

Obviously, that’s not all… We also spelunk Backstreet’s 1995 not so hit single We’ve Got it Goin’ On. That, plus bike messengers, folk in regular communication with Jesus, and the new Star Wars short film…

They drop a day early with an extra thirty minutes or more for every episode! Today, Rob reviews two movies for us! Thunderbolts and Sinners… A double feature!

  • Malebag 3.0

We made it folks! Made it all the way to the end of season 4 here at The Pit. As my grandma would say: holy mackerel. But you know what the end of a season means… It’s mailbag time. We fielded questions from our listeners and you KNOW there’s some gold.

We meander through many a question: our origin story, favorite childhood board games, and even which Jim Carrey characters would be the best and worst boss. We also discuss what makes a good rapper, why we have such offensive backgrounds, and fantasy pod guests. Plus, you know we had to talk The Rehearsal… SPOILER ALERT.

And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! They drop a day early with an extra thirty minutes or more for every episode! Today, however, we don’t have a Patreon episode… Everyone gets the full thing. Cause I love you.

We also have some merch for sale up on our Etsy, as well as a limited run of embroidered beanies out now! Only a few left… Shoot us a DM on IG if you’re interested.
