In this first period of the show we follow up from Episode 12 when we spoke about NBC SportsNet closing down at the end of 2021. In that episode we talked about how the NHL was going to be moving from NBCSN to the USA Network per the press release for the closing of the network. This past week it was announced that the NHL signed a 7 year deal with ESPN and ABC to come back home. We discussed the last time an NHL game appeared on ESPN. We sidebar into NHL Video Games, and buffets.

the Second period we discuss the career of Drew Brees and his recently announced retirement. We talk over some of his achievements, his Super Bowl win, and also talk about his future as an analyst for NBC's NFL coverage.

Finally in the 3rd period, we deviate from our normal format to honor the late "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler, who recently passed away at the age of 66. We talk about his accolades in the world of boxing, and his final fight against "Sugar" Ray Leonard. Then we get to the main part of the 3rd period. We talk about the incredible fight between Hagler and Thomas "Hitman" Hearns. The bout that was dubbed The War is a must watch for any sports fan.

We start this episode off by talking of the news that JJ Watt has signed with the Arizona Cardinals. We discuss his reasons for the move, will the move pay off, and we compare him to another recent signing in the NFL. 

In the 2nd period we check up on how the NHL season is going thus far. David gives us some insight as a life long hockey fan. Along with his thoughts on how the realignment is working for this season.

Finally in the 3rd period, we discuss obscure sports. We discuss a wide array of sports from competitive wiffleball to ice cross. We also talk about ESPN The Ocho, which is ESPN's yearly day of obscure sports programming.

Also this week Jason will be on the A Show with our previous guest Matt and his co host Chris. That show will drop Monday morning March 8th. We will be drafting from the 1989 NWA/WCW Roster. Welcome to Episode 14 of the Home of Sports Talk For Everyone!

David and Jason are back with this 14th episode of the Not Another Sports Podcast. 

The 1st period we dive into the start of Minor League Baseball. We go over the realignment of MiLB since the 2019 season. We also discuss the MLB Draft League and what that means for the towns hosting teams and for the players involved. We wrap up the 1st period with a discussion of the independent baseball leagues that are now considered MLB Partner Leagues. 

In the 2nd period we discuss Carson Wentz getting his requested trade from the Eagles to the Colts. We talk about his career thus far and his history of injuries. We dive into the Eagles history and QB.

Four our second topic we talk about the Phillies offering elite catcher JT Realmuto a possible 5 year and over $100 million deal. If we each think this was a lowball offer or if it is realistic. We also discuss the fact that his potential landing spots are dwindling now that the Toronto Blue Jays have just signed George Springer to a 6 year $150 million dollar deal this week. Additionally we talk about the financial market for teams in the current climate and potentially how the fans might feel about this.

Finally we discuss our picks for the most iconic voices in sports. The names we discuss are Harry Kalas, Al Michaels, Vin Scully, Doc Emerick, Chris Berman, and John Madden. We go over some highlights of their careers and talk about why we feel these are iconic voices in sports.

On this episode David and Jason were joined by the previously mentioned on the show Matt Deurelein. Matt is a big time Boston Bruins fan and a New York Mets fan. He is also a long time professional wrestling referee who has worked for Chikara, Impact Wrestling, and a host of other promotions up and down the east coast. 

In the first period the guys talk about the NHL season starting up on January 13th, they also speak about the Flyers vs Bruins outdoor game happening on February 21st at Lake Tahoe. Seeing as Matt likes the Bruins and David likes the Flyers this was a fun conversation.

the second period they discuss the MLB post season and the win now moves made by both the Mets and the Padres. They also touched about the Cubs fire sale and the potential of the team going into a rebuild.

Finally this episodes 3rd period is out most fun yet. They decided in honor of Matt being on the show, to talk about great athletes that became pro wrestlers. Some of the wrestlers talked about were Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Brian Pillman, Ron Simmons, Giant Baba, and more! Honestly, this topic was a lot of fun and the guys enjoyed themselves and hope you do to listening to it.

In this Christmas episode of The Not Another Sports Podcast. Jason and David start the show off with some updates on prior topics. From there we discuss the possibility of the NHL having team play outdoors for the 2021 season. Finally in the 3rd period, They discuss their favorite retro jerseys.

One this episode David continues to ask Jason for updates on his Fantasy Football season. This time David gets an unexpected response. Clearly Jason is having quite the season.

The 1st period topic this episode is a question from friend of the show Brad from the Baseball Together Podcast. He was curious on their thoughts on why hockey players seem to have longer careers than baseball players. David and Jason both give their thoughts on why this is. David himself who played amateur hockey had some great insight into why this may be. They also compared hockey to baseball, basketball, and soccer. Specifically the mental and physical aspects of the game. They wrap up the segment by discussing the toughness of former goalie Clint Malarchuk playing 10 days after almost dying on the ice in 1989.

In the 2nd period they discuss Snow Games. Jason leads off with the 1982 Snowplow Game between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins. David discusses the 2008 Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabers.  They discuss what made each game memorable as well as why snow games in particular are so special in the world of North American sports.

Finally in the 3rd period they talk about Unlucky Teams. Jason and David each looked at this topic from two different perspectives. Jason brings 3 teams who have a history of bad luck with bad seasons, wasting talent, and so on. The teams he talked about are the Detroit Lions(NHL), The Baltimore Orioles(MLB), and the Orlando Magic(NBA). David however discussed 3 teams who have not performed well in their leagues respective playoffs. He spoke about the Boston Bruins (NHL), The Buffalo Bills (NFL), and Philadelphia Phillies (MLB).

In this episode join David and Jason for their usual shenanigans when it comes to Jason's fantasy football season. That discussion takes us to the 1st period topic. Can the Steelers have a perfect season. They talk about the Steelers current season, how Juju Smith-Schuster has become a team leader this season, and prior Steelers teams. They also discuss the 1972 Dolphins, and how the game has changed since that time period.

With that we move onto the 2nd period topic where the guys discuss late round draft picks who went on to be all time great players. Specifically they discuss Tom Brady, Brett Hull, and Mike Piazza.  Finally, for their 3rd Period topic, they dive into Christmas gifts for the sports fan, and they share two gifts they would love to get for Christmas.

Join us in this episode of The Not Another Sports Podcast as David and Jason discuss the world of sports and sports adjacent topics.

This episode starts off with David’s asking for his regular update into Jason’s fantasy football season. Which then breaks into a discussion about Tom Brady, Tony Romo, and Joe Buck.

Period 1 they discuss the potential for the NHL to shutdown before the new season even begins. They talk about the NHL’s current revenue stream being primarily ticket driven. Jason suggests that the NHL could mitigate this potential issue by going with virtual fans like the NBA, and WWE. They discuss the logistics of that idea and how to implement it. David brings up Alexander Ovechkin’s chase for Gretzky, and that leads us to the NHL potentially looking into hub sites for the 2021 season and how that might look in the 2021 season. From there they game out how the league would look like with a temporary change for a Canada Division for the 2021 season.

In Period 2 they talk about AJ Hinch being hired to manage the Detroit Tigers and Alex Cora being rehired by the Boston Red Sex after the fallout of the Astros sign stealing scandal. In relation to that Jason brings up Pete Rose and the punishment he got for betting on baseball as a manager back in 1989. They also bring up baseball’s history of gaming the system to a teams favor, and that mangers in the early 20th century were betting on their own teams. Also, discussed the affect the steroid era had on baseball’s record books. Going back to Pete Rose they talk about if his punishment were to be lifted, what would Pete Rose’s role in MLB look like if he was allowed to be involved with the game now.

Finally in the 3rd Period they cover the world of wacky sports team names. They discuss teams from minor league baseball (who has the most wacky team names based on our research), college sports, and etc.
