In this 1st episode of our series “Leading with Servant Mindset” our host Melissa Knight, RN, MSN, CNE discusses concepts of selfless leadership. Influence is best cultivated under the conditions of leading oneself first. Selfless leadership attitudes will be required of leaders of the future and most notably include:
* Selfless leaders develop relationships
and put others first* Selfless leaders have
high levels of empathy and emotional intelligence* Selfless leaders have exceptional
communication, technical and people skills* Selfless leaders are driven
to excel and inspire others to grow and succeed
Becoming a selfless leader requires one to lead themselves 1st..We
must be aligned with our purpose that creates harmony, serenity and peace that
illuminates to others around us that opposite however creates negative energy and
anxiety. Our busy and chaotic lives
center around work and social media platform in which has caused many to become
disconnected. It is priority that we reconnect
and commit time to actively commit to mental solitude and deep introspection. Getting
in-tune with oneself deep reflection. Every
great leader in history had to commit to frequent periods of mental solitude to
become a better version of themselves Growing as a leader requires us to become
aware of our present “State of mind”. Stepping
away from the chaos and give ourselves permission to be alone allows us to gain
clarity and through clarity is where you can regain focus on your responsibilities
and promotes greater creativity. Solitude
allows us to become vulnerable with ourselves. Actively working on our minds gives
us conviction…This conviction is the foundation of leadership. An effective leader is the person who can maintain
discipline, balance and reflect, when a lot of people around them are reacting.
Today Melissa challenges listeners to begin moving toward becoming a selfless
leader today by engaging in the following:
* Make a list of your strengths as a leader and
weakness that you would like to change.* Seek out others who you see as a selfless leader
and examine what sets them apart from the norm. * Ask them to coach and mentor you if possible or
find resources, books, articles, videos, podcasts on leadership development.* Seek out someone you can lead or
mentor—establish at least 1 new meaningful relationship this week. * Establish progress points and evaluate your
progress toward becoming a selfless leader.
