The Open Word (Audio)

The Bible likens the life of a Christian as a race. In today’s message, Pastor David teaches us that the moment we believe in Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross, it is the very moment that the whistle sounds at the starting line and we begin to run. Pastor David admonishes us to not be content to stay at the starting block as baby Christians and wait for Christ to take us home. Instead, we must be diligent to add to our faith by reading the Bible, fellowshipping with other believers, praying, and fulfilling the Great Commission.

Life is a battle and a daily grind. However, the Scriptures teach that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is living inside of us. In today’s message, Pastor David teaches us that this means that once we were a slave to our flesh and sin. However, through the power of the cross, we have the presence of the Holy Spirit. As we walk with Jesus, His power works in us and through us so that we become participators in His divine nature. This means that we can overcome whatever life throws at us because we have Christ in us.

The Bible says that we have been given everything we need for life and Godliness. In today’s message, Pastor David teaches us that the main thing that the Lord provides is His very own Spirit to empower us to do as God would have us do. The Holy Spirit convicts us when we do wrong and leads us back into fellowship with Christ. The Holy Spirit also leads us into all truth so that we might rightly divide the Word of God and know what Jesus’s will for our life is. The Holy Spirit is also our Comforter and Helper in times of need.

All of the world religions attempt to teach man how to work their way to God. However, despite man’s best efforts, he can never reach enlightenment or perfection. In today’s message, Pastor David teaches us that what differentiates Christianity from all other religions is that Chirst’s followers come to the Lord fully admitting that they can never obtain perfection in their own strength. Instead, Believers approach God by faith. Christians believe that Jesus paid the debt of sin on the cross and through His blood, they have the righteousness of God.

Much of the New Testament cannon is devoted to encouraging Believers to be students of the Word. In today’s message, Pastor David reminds us of the importance of knowing the truth as defined by the Bible. Those that do not know what God says are in great danger of deception and will be unable to make the necessary, often difficult, yet wise decisions that lead to life. However, those that know the Word will be able to rightly discern God’s will for their life and will recognize a lie when it comes.
