The Original Deadtime Stories episodes

  • Chapter 4: Swipe Left (Rebroadcast)
It's June first which means it is officially Pride Month. A friendly reminder that this month is not brought to you by major brands slapping a rainbow flag on their product after spending the past year donating to anti LGBTQ+ organizations! It was created by trans women of color of Stonewall. In honor of them, I present to you one of our earlier episodes about a gay black man and the horror he faced after an AOL chatroom session went wrong. Originally broadcast August 15, 2018.

Please note this episode contains homophobic slurs. These are for the purposes of historical accuracy and do not reflect mine, the cast, or crew's opinions.

Written and narrated by Schuyler Fastenau-Jones. Additional voices by Chris Svehla, Briton Smith, John Angeli, Kevin Easely, Heather Geisler, Steven Coe, Sarah Cooper, and Carly Wilson.

  • Chapter 6: The Black Widow of Sacramento (Rebroadcast)
Did you know today is National Senior Health & Fitness Day? If you happen to be a senior, how are you going to get ripped and shredded today? Going to the gym? Taking a hike? Burying another body in your backyard? It's totally up to you! Originally broadcast September 12, 2018.

Please note this episode includes offensive language towards non-neurotypical individuals. This is for the purpose of historical accuracy and does not reflect mine, the cast, or crew's opinions.

Written and narrated by Schuyler Fastenau-Jones. Additional voices by Jessica Ash, Zachary Szakin, Matt Edwards, Steven Coe, Marina Delgado, Brandon Maple, and AJ Harris.

  • Chapter 61: Darlie Dearest (Rebroadcast)
Somebody mentioned the case of Darlier Routier to me recently and asked if I ever covered her story. "I have!" I eagerly responded and then the story of the gum popping, silly string spraying, sweetheart Texan mother played over and over in my mind. In honor of that person asking me about Darlie, I present to them (and you of course!) our coverage of her story. Originally broadcast April 14, 2021.

Written by Jordan Katcher, narrated by Schuyler Fastenau-Jones and executive produced by Daniel Fastenau-Jones. Additional voices by Janette Zosche, Taylor Shurte, Marissa Pistone, Jordan Katcher, Daniel Fastenau-Jones, Matthew MacNelly, Walker Barnes, Jeremy Staple, and Rainee Blake. • Chapter 67: Murder at the Midway (Rebroadcast)
I don't know about your town, but LA has been warming up and reminding me that summer is right around the corner. I can not wait to go to the beach and enjoy my summer Fridays at work. With this summer vibe, I wanted to re-share with you the story Frank Sheffield and his five year old daughter Maggie. Their afternoon at Rocky Point Amusement Park would certainly be one they'd never forget. Originally broadcast September 1, 2021.

Written and narrated by Schuyler Fastenau-Jones and executive produced by Daniel Fastenau-Jones. Additional voices by Tamara Perry, Jordan Katcher, Janette Zosche, Taylor Shurte, Jeremy Staple, Daniel Jones, Gabriel Rivers, and David DeGrow Shotwell. Cover artwork by Catherine Fastenau. • Chapter 83: Ciggies, Birds and a Convenience Store
College was a really fun part of my life but campuses can be dangerous places. I received many an e-mail from campus police about a sexual assault or attempted sexual assault on campus and the steps we can do to protect ourselves (one of the many reasons Roe V. Wade should not be overturned btw). Whenever we received those e-mails, the student body would be on edge for a while, hoping we weren't next. In the 90s though, it wasn't just the students at Missouri's Lindenwood University who would run into trouble. Sometimes it was an innocent bystander from the surrounding neighborhoods.

Please note: this episode contains reenactments of sexual assault against a minor which may be triggering and disturbing. Listener discretion is advised.

Written and narrated by Schuyler Fastenau-Jones and executive produced by Daniel Fastenau-Jones. Additional voices by Jeremy Staple, Janette Zosche, Jordan Katcher, Juno Nifosi, Ahesha Catalano, and Daniel Fastenau-Jones. Theme music by Tracy Zales. Editing and sound design by Brian Campbell. • Chapter 82: Unwritten
Whenever I listen to or read the news these days I learn a lot of things are now banned in classrooms because they make students uncomfortable. In fact, just this past week I read a quick blurb about 41% of Florida's math textbooks are going under review because they allegedly teach critical race theory. Though it's unpleasant to feel uncomfortable, sometimes you have to learn these things so history does not repeat itself. Today's chapter is my way of passing along a story Arkansas's written records tell very differently than oral histories passed down by people of color.

Please note: this episode contains reenactments of sexual assault and extreme racism in a pre-Civil War America which some may find triggering. Listener discretion is advised.

Written and narrated by Schuyler Fastenau-Jones and executive produced by Daniel Fastenau-Jones. Additional voices by Jeremy Staple, Janette Zosche, Jordan Katcher, Juno Nifosi, Ahesha Catalano, and Daniel Fastenau-Jones. Theme music by Tracy Zales. Editing and sound design by Brian Campbell.

  • Chapter 81: Happy Birthday, Florida Man
If the 2000s have shown us anything it is the popularity of social media "challenges." Tide Pod, Cinnamon, and 10 Year are just a few that come to mind. Does anybody else remember the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge? Ugh I'm still steamed that I was NEVER nominated. So to make up for my FOMO I have nominated myself to take part in an even more exciting challenge: The Florida Man Challenge. Google your birthday followed by "Florida Man" and see what pops up. Mine are "Florida Man Accused of Killing Neighbor Over Cat Issue" and "Florida man, 52, told police that he shot and dismembered his 42-year-old housemate, saying he could 'possibly be the next mass killer that we hear about in the media.'" Oh boy do we have a show for y'all today!

Written and narrated by Schuyler Fastenau-Jones and executive produced by Daniel Fastenau-Jones. Additional voices by Jeremy Staple, Janette Zosche, Jordan Katcher, Juno Nifosi, Ahesha Catalano, and Daniel Fastenau-Jones. Cover artwork by Catherine Fastenau. Theme music by Tracy Zales. • Chapter 60: Arsenic & Old Coffee (Rebroadcast)
Easter Sunday is nearly here so we wanted to share with you the darker side of church services. 60 congregants went to a service back in 2003 at the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church. How many walked out alive after their coffee was poisoned? Originally broadcast April 7, 2021.

Additional voices by Jordan Katcher, Janette Zosche, Matthew MacNelly, Marissa Pistone, Daniel Jones, Walker Barnes, Taylor Shurte, Rainee Blake, Sophia Sassone, Jeremy Staple, and Allyn Anthony Moriyon.
