I'm not famous by any means BUT I was hounded by the press once. Okay so maybe hounded isn't the BEST choice of words. A reporter got out of his car right as I happened to be walking home from high school, he saw my book bag, and asked me about our new lunch options at school and whether I agreed with the government regulations of our lunches or not. I was so awkward on camera and grabbed the mic then released the mic then grabbed it again, totally unsure what he wanted me to do. Thank goodness they did NOT include my interview in the final edit. Could you imagine what would've happened if it had been an interview about a murder victim instead of cafeteria lunches and I knew something about that victim?! That would've been awkward. Well...there's at least one guy in this world who can imagine that.

Putting aside everything going wrong in the world right now and trying to focus on the positive things of this past weekend's holiday are extremely hard for me. So I'll close my eyes and think back to my childhood summers and visiting The Ohio State Fair. I loved going there to see the butter cow, sweat in the quilt barn as my mom forced us to admire the quilts with her, ride the rides, and eat 85 pounds of fried goodies. For Christie Mullins however, the 1975 fair wasn't going to be one to remember.

In case you didn't realize, this past weekend we observed Juneteenth. I also happened to visit the Academy Museum here in Los Angeles where there was an entire room dedicated to Spike Lee. Inside that room I froze because right on the wall in front of me was the poster and an award for his documentary "4 Little Girls." It immediately took me back to my research for this episode on the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. And as promised, another episode to make up for last week. I think it's good to be aware that not every member of the LGBTQ+ community can be labeled a hero. There are in fact some villains...like many of the guys I dated in the past. Some of them were pretty villainous. One man though did something completely unthinkable and vile. The AIDS crisis may be overlooked in history classes but the disease ran rampant throughout our community. Today there have been wonderful advances in the medical world to help keep HIV/AIDS under control. Still, Daryll Rowe decided to weaponize his status to seek revenge on men he dated.
