The Other Half

Cool Runnings is based on the true story of the first Jamaican Bobsled team to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics. It's a Disney sports movie like Miracle! But how true is it? Don't worry, Mike is on the case!

It's time to watch, Grave of the Fireflies, which is considered one of the saddest films of all time. Somehow the boys work some laughs into this Studio Ghibli film, but boy was it a rough watch. Just listen to our episode on the movie and it will take a lot of sting out of this absolutely devastating motion picture.

Surprisingly, this episode won't feature the sound of music, but us talking about the hit musical The Sound of Music! We watched the classic Julie Andrews movie to see if it holds up and were just shocked by how much of an impact on it made on modern culture.

Somehow even the action movie, 48 Hrs, makes this podcast bring up Green Book. We can't escape that movie no matter how hard we try. Shame on us and shame on me.

Look, it's a buddy cop movie set in the '80s with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte, can you image how this will go? Surprisingly, this movie is far more serious than you may expect!

From the people who brought you "Angels in the Outfield," comes The Big Green. Perhaps the blandest sports movie to ever exist. The director, Holly Goldberg Sloan, went on to direct this insane movie called Heidi 4 Paws, which I've included at the bottom of these show notes.

Look The Big Green is a mess. This podcast episode just goes into detail how speeding up action shots don't automatically make them more interesting or how gross loser characters always end up with the woman, because they "deserve" to right?

Also if anyone knows about the article I mentioned in the podcast, please send it to me. I can't seem to find it anywhere and I don't want to keep calling mildly sad situations "monopoly sad."

Here's Heidi 4 Paws:

Spike Lee brings power to the people in Blackkklansman. Green Book preaches racism was bad but sure is good that it's dead, while this movie spits directly in the face of that idea. Also, this movie totally has Steve Buscemi in it. Not his potentially evil twin.

A Star is Born saved Ethan and Mike from what's been a dismal Oscar season. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga carry the show in the fourth remake of this tragic love story. One thing never changes over time, musicians can be a handful!

It's time for us to watch a little political movie called Vice! It's all about how Dick Cheney came out of nowhere and became the most powerful man in the free world. But more importantly it's almost two hours for director and writer Adam McKay to ravage your sense!

Remember when he just did Step Brothers and didn't try to say anything smart besides don't put your balls on your brother's drum set?

Our Green Book podcast takes aim at one of the weirdest Oscar nominees. Green Book has Viggo Mortensen learn from Mahershala Ali that racism is bad and just because you're rich, it doesn't mean you can avoid it. It also has little to do with the actual Green Book, which is deeply disappointing besides the fact that most of this movie is probably fake.
