I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Dr. Jay Zigmont, founder of Childfree Wealth, the first financial planning firm designed specifically for childfree individuals. As a childfree person myself, I was fascinated to dig deeper into the unique financial needs and overlooked experiences of the childfree community. Dr. Jay drops some eye-opening statistics - did you know 20-25% of Americans are childfree, yet most financial systems just assume you have kids? Mindblown! He shares transparently about the judgment, assumptions, and bias that childfree folks face regularly from society and even businesses. I mean, he's had people pray for his soul! Dr. Jay also gives some super practical tips for how employers can make their workplace more inclusive for child-free employees. Things like asking openly what policies could better support them and recognizing that childfree people have families too. And for other childfree folks listening, he covers important financial considerations like planning early for long-term care (since no kids to rely on as you age). I walked away feeling seen and with a greater understanding of how to advocate for my community.
