Our Parsha begins with the story of the spies' reconnaissance of Israel. The Jewish people lacked faith in what G-d had told them about the land, so they asked Moshe if they could send spies to study Israel and report back. Moshe then picked one leader from each tribe and assigned them this special task.

The spies headed out to perform their directives; they spent 40 days surveying the land and its people.

When they returned to Moshe, they reported that the land was flowing with milk and honey. However, they warned that its citizens are powerful and mighty giants, and its cities are well fortified.

Our Parsha begins with Hashem telling Moshe the transport duties of the three families of the tribe of Levi.

Hashem then teaches Moshe about the Sotah.

A Sotah is a suspected adulteress who was witnessed going into seclusion with another man.

When she arrives, the Kohanim write this Torah portion on parchment and soaked in water until the ink dissolves.

The Sotah must drink the water, and if she indeed committed adultery, her belly would miraculously swell until she died.

Our Parsha begins with an overview of the laws of Shemitah and Yovel.

Shemitah is a seven-year cycle in which we may farm the land for six years; however, we must let the land rest in the seventh year.

The Yovel cycle, which also requires letting the land rest, is the first year after seven Shemitah cycles. At this time, all Jewish slaves must be released, and all properties are reverted back to their original owners.

We find out why shabbos is said in a plural way.

We learn about the duality in our service to God.
