  • EP51: Reflections on a $100,000 Quarter & Q4 Planning Guide

“If something needs to change, now’s the time to change it so you have a different year in 2020. Nothing is going to change overnight.”

    Janelle Lara (32:41-32:56)

The following is a “state of the union” of my company, and I'm going to open up and share the numbers. I want you to see that I’m walking the walk and practicing what I preach.

“When you're looking to hire a coach, make sure that person is who they say they are and they're doing what they say they're doing.” - Janelle Lara (04:17-4:31)

My total sales for quarter three (Q3) was $108,600. My goal for my first 12 months of business was to have a six-figure year, and I’m grateful that in one quarter I’ve closed almost $110,000 in sales.

My expenses have been around 40%, which is a little high. One of my goals in Q four is to reduce expenses to 30%. I’ve maintained a 20% reinvestment rate throughout 2019, and I’m building an emergency fund equal to one month’s expenses.

My email list size has 422 people, and my Facebook group has 485 members. That might not sound like a lot, but I’m still hitting milestones in my business.

“It’s totally possible to create a profitable and amazing business with an audience of less than 500. It happens all the time.” - Janelle Lara (10:46-10:58)

Reflections on Q3 for My Business

Reflection #1: I perfected my process and method before launching.

I launched my first group program, and I’m loving it. But I took the time to perfect the process, and I was able to collect around 20 hours of testimonial videos on my website from clients who hit their first $10K month within three weeks.

When I launched this group program, I was able to say, “Hey! I've gotten all these people amazing results!”

Reflection #2: I embraced the fluctuations that come with building a business.

There’s a high level of energy required to onboard clients. You have to be on top of your processes, making clients feel welcome while making sure you’re collecting money.

I can take it easy for the rest of the month since I've hit my revenue goals. I can push and hustle and be excited about working when I'm in that state while relaxing and giving myself and my family the care and time I need.

“Lean into the feminine receiving energy of being grateful. You can serve your clients while trusting that you’ll receive the perfect clients at the perfect time.” - Janelle Lara (17:31-17:54)

Reflection #3: I honed in on my numbers.

I’m learning to say, “Thank you. More please.” My CFO and I sat down after my last launch to make changes, such as putting myself on the payroll for legal and tax reasons.

I’ve learned that it’s okay to ask for more, even after an $85,000 launch because $85,000 isn’t going to buy us a house, put my child through college, or allow us to do all the things that my husband and I want to do.

    My Goals for Q4

The following are the goals I’ve set for Q4:

    • Reduce my expenses
    • Launch another challenge
    • Leverage other people’s audiences to grow my own
    • Taking time off for holidays and special events

I'm launching another challenge, and I'm focused on getting more visibility for my content while continuing to nurture my current audience. But I'm taking time off in October, November, and December to spend time with my family, travel, and speak at events.

The Questions You Need to Ask to Prepare for Q4

The following are four questions you can ask yourself to create a clear picture of what you want your Q4 to look like so that it supports your goals for the following year:

    1. What do you want the holidays to look like?

Set boundaries for your holiday schedule as soon as possible. Block out those days. If you’re an agency, let your clients know the days you're taking off. Protect your time with your family over the holidays.

    1. What do you want Q1 of 2020 to look like?

Do you want to launch a program or have your highest quarter ever? Start with your desired outcome and then work backward. What are the actions you need to take?

    1. What were your gross sales in 2019?

What income did you collect this year? What was profit, and what went to your expenses? Are you happy with these numbers?

Then determine what needs to change. Maybe you're making high sales, but you're not collecting as much as you'd like to collect.

Or maybe your business isn't making any profit at all. What needs to change so that you’re achieving your financial goals?

    1. How do you feel in your business?

Sit back, breathe, and ask yourself, “How do I really feel about this?” Do you feel joyful or do you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or negative?

Start working towards your goals now so that you can bring joy back into your business in 2020. That could mean hiring someone, working with a coach, or even firing a client. Whatever it is, I want you to feel empowered to do that.

When you ask the right questions, you get the answers you need to grow as an entrepreneur and as a person who can give more to others and make a bigger impact on the people you serve.

  • EP50: Billy Had Her First 10k Month!

“Anyone can achieve success. You just have to trust in your own abilities.”

    Billy Alice (28:13 - 28:18)

Can you live a life you don’t need a vacation from? Does it sound too good to be true? Billy Alice is proof that it’s not. Within the first month of her official launch as a Mindset and Intuition Coach, Billy grossed over $12,000 in sales. Her success is a reflection of the impact that working with an aligned coach, putting in the hard work, and trusting her intuition has had.

“Get to the point where you listen and act. There’s such a difference when you trust your higher self and intuition instead of trying to do it all on your own.” - Billy Alice (10:26 - 10:47)

But Billy wasn’t always so in tune with her intuition. It was something she painfully learned after her first marriage ended in divorce. Her husband cheated on her with her best friend from high school, and in just one day everything changed. Billy lost her home, two jobs, and a furry companion. A tragedy like this would destroy almost any person. But Billy made a conscious decision to not let this define who she is. Instead, she jumped into working on herself and paying attention to her intuition.

Three Ways to Begin Trusting Yourself

Dream big. Sometimes the craziest notion is actually the best idea. Billy and her new husband moved to Florida without the security of jobs. They agreed it felt instinctively right and would bring them closer to their entrepreneurial dreams. Needless to say, it worked. Don’t be afraid to dream big.

Practice daily. It takes time to trust and act on your gut feelings. We can confuse fear with intuition. Does what you’re feeling have a compassionate or negative tone? Your intuition is always working to keep you on target, and it gets easier to trust the more you practice over time.

The Whole Package Kind of Coach. Billy’s three months of coaching work was the runway that allowed her business to take off. You need to invest in yourself first before you can begin to make a profit. A coach can guide your attention and help you break through mental blocks with a personalized approach. You can quickly develop the confidence to say, “Yes, I am a CEO!”

“You need to start your business knowing it’s going to take time and capital. You want to serve from an abundant place, not just go for quick cash.” - Janelle Lara (8:53 - 9:06)

The journey to becoming a CEO isn’t easy. But the path is open to whoever dares to claim a life they don’t need a vacation from. If you’re not sure where to start, listen to your gut. Let your intuition guide your decisions, and invest in a coach to help you speed up the process and get your business off the runway. Happiness is achievable, and success is possible. You just have to trust your abilities and go for it.

  • EP49: A Brain Education with Neal Phalora

“Trade your inner critic for an inner coach.”

    Neal Phalora (18:26 - 18:29)

Do you feel stuck and overwhelmed? Most people let their emotional constipation govern their everyday lives. We forget to take control, and we suffer in our careers, relationships, and health. Neal Phalora is known as the “Brain Warrior”. Neal blames the lack of education on the true power of the brain. Tapping into the power of your brain can crush limiting beliefs and make a bigger impact as an entrepreneur. Your brain is more powerful than you think.

“We leave our brains open and let everything come in and out freely without a bouncer at the door. Be the sherpa of your thoughts and feelings.” - Neal Phalora (32:42 - 32:55)

Neal knew something was wrong with his body after getting accepted into medical school. He slept for hours on end, gained 65 pounds, and wouldn’t leave home because of the directional confusion he struggled with. It wasn’t until he met a functional doctor that he began to piece together life-changing concepts that helped him work his way back to health.

The scientific fact is that the human body is 99% space and 1% matter. Trillions of tiny cells reveal little to the naked eye, but they pack together like a big battery. At 1.4 volts per cell, you’re a walking, talking, and fully charged Energizer bunny.

Your Brain is a Powerful Radio Antenna

The concept of quantum interconnectedness describes how the energy within the human body communicates within the body. It travels down highways and along passages from organ to organ. The brain sits in the radio tower, and whatever it thinks, the body listens. Your thoughts and feelings guide the body into states of health, disease, abundance, or scarcity. You can flip your internal narrative, create a new version that serves you, and manifest a new reality!

Build New Pathways to Rewire Your Way to Success

Ninety-eight percent of your current behaviors and thought patterns are hard-wired. If you’ve been thinking that you’re unworthy for the last ten years of your life, then every part of you will believe you’re unworthy. Fortunately, there are two techniques you can incorporate to cut off these old pathways and build new ones. The first is to ask yourself what you can do when you find yourself in a negative situation instead of why it happened. The second is to think of yourself as greater than you are. The goal is to empower yourself by focusing on the positive and potential rather than dwelling in reactionary victimhood.

“When we accept that our visual perception isn’t the scientific reality, then the world becomes an open and expansive book where we can build the life we want to build.” - Janelle Lara (16:28-16:52)

The brain is the most powerful tool you have at your disposal. Using it to your advantage can transform your life, and you don’t have to be overwhelmed any longer. Try to capture a sweet and savory moment. Put your hand over your heart, close your eyes, and hold onto that positive emotion as long as possible. You are rewiring the brain away from a negative bias and towards a positive one. You have the power to change your reality by simply taking control of your mind.

  • EP48: Own Your Authority: Leveraging Video & Events in Business

“The more you’re seen and heard,

the more people are attracted to you.”

    Tamara Thompson (4:17 - 4:20)

Tamara Thompson is the CEO of Serious Take Productions and the host of Broadcast Your Authority TV. She teaches business owners how to create and re-purpose high-quality video content for better traction. Are you making the impact you want through social media? There are right and wrong ways to put yourself out there. You can broadcast your authority the right way and reach more people.

“Video promotes visibility and creates a human connection.”

    - Janelle Lara (30:57 - 31:00)

Every entrepreneur needs to be seen, heard, and known in order to succeed in business. But so many fail to utilize the powerful tool of video. Video provides the opportunity for followers to connect and engage on a deeper level. It’s your big-ticket to quickly and efficiently acquire more clients for more sales.

Tips for Broadcasting Your Authority as an Influencer

    • Be strategic. Understanding the online algorithms that dictate traffic flow is critical. There’s so much going on behind the scenes. Do your research and learn the basics of SEO. Use the right keywords and headlines to get found on Google and YouTube.

    • Tell a story. People are getting creative these days, and we’ve come a long way away from videos of a random talking head. Have a game plan before you jump in front of the camera. Pre-plan, shoot, and then work your post-production magic.

    • Provide value. Aside from valuable content, what else can you provide that grabs your audience’s attention? Events are a perfect way to get hype and buzz around your brand. Get creative in how you can connect face-to-face with your audience.

“You’re going to have naysayers, so don’t take it personally. That’s everywhere on social media.” - Tamara Thompson (16:47 - 16:55)

We know how scary it is to put yourself out there. Stop worrying so much and just start! All you need is your smartphone, some natural light, and a tripod. The power of video makes it easy to take charge, become an influencer, and spread your brand’s message.

  • EP47: Lessons from My $85,000 Launch

“You have to dig deep to accomplish anything worth bragging about.”

    Janelle Lara (6:54 - 6:59)

Do you really want to up your game? In August, I launched a group program with the intention of going big. Guess what happened? I closed 15 clients with a total of $85,000 in sales. With the right preparation, investment, and execution, I made the largest amount of revenue I’ve ever made in one month. Now it’s your turn. You can level the playing field using the lessons I learned from my latest and most successful launch.

“When you provide a valuable service and make strategic moves to get what you need, you can go far.” - Janelle Lara (10:13 - 10:24)

Hitting a five or even six-figure mark isn’t impossible. If I can do it, so can you.

Here are the tactics and tools that worked for me:

    • Goal Setting. Write out a good, better, and best goal. Your good goal is what will satisfy you. Your better goal is what will excite you. Your best goal is a home run. Check out Alex Beadon to learn more about this!

    • PR. Before my launch, I hired a copywriter (shout out to Sarah Temte) and got five affiliates on board. These promotional tools grew my audience to 2,000 viewers. Increase your brand visibility through PR. The more content you can create and push, the better.

    • Mindset Work. Hiring a mindset coach helps you dig deep, clear out subconscious blocks, and shift limiting beliefs. You can start small with journaling and praying.

    • Direct Messaging. Who is opening and reading your emails? Who is consistently showing up on your lives? Who likes your posts? Direct message anyone who seems like a good fit.

    • Self-Care. Launches are physically and emotionally draining. Don’t wait until after it’s all said and done to replenish and relax. Take care of yourself now.

As you push forward, keep the following in mind:

    • There is such a thing as good stress. When you push yourself towards a big goal, you start to realize what you’re capable of. Let the stress of the challenge shape and mold you into a stronger businesswoman.

    • You aren’t for everyone. There will be a lot of people who just don’t want to work with you. That’s okay. Rejection keeps you humble. So focus your attention on the people who do want to work with you instead.

“When you sit in the flow, do the prep work, leave the rest alone, and trust God, clients will come out of nowhere.” - Janelle Lara (49:01 - 49:16)

The journey to becoming a high-caliber professional doesn’t have to be hard or exhausting. However, nothing on this earth is given away for free. You have to earn it. Up your game through strategic decision-making and careful planning. Dig deep and do the prep work, then surrender to the will of God. Everything that you want already exists. You just have to go get after it.
