  • EP46: Creating a Movement with Zachary Babcock

“Everyone knows an underdog. People love an against-the-odds success story, and they want to support the underdogs in their journey.”

    Janelle Lara (20:43 -20:53)

Zachary Babcock is the ultimate underdog success story. He went from living with convicted felons in prison to rubbing elbows with multi-millionaire entrepreneurs. He’s the founder of the Underdog Empowerment podcast, a top 200 rated podcast on iTunes where he Interviews celebrities, professional athletes, and industry leaders. Zachary also helps entrepreneurs launch top-rated podcasts in iTunes in five weeks or less.

    Everybody roots for the underdog.

Everybody loves an underdog story. Studies have shown that more people root for the perceived underdogs in different types of contests. If you’ve seen any of the Rocky movies, you’ve probably experienced this yourself. We support underdogs because we want to see someone work hard and overcome the odds stacked against them.

The definition of an underdog can vary depending on the person. People might doubt your ability to succeed as an entrepreneur. They may ridicule you for daring to dream big. But with the odds stacked against you, your underdog mentality can be the fuel that propels you towards success. As you grow and succeed over time, your desire to prove others wrong is replaced by the desire to become the best possible version of yourself.

“An underdog has a grandiose vision, even with the odds stacked against them. No matter how many people count them out, they’re committed to winning and getting the life they dream of and deserve.”

    - Zachary Babcock (16:19 - 16:35)

When you’re just starting out, you’ll likely go through a period of significant uncertainty. You may try and fail in many ventures. You might lack the skills needed to market and sell your products or services. You may have some success only to realize that what you’re doing isn’t aligned with your vision.

How to create a movement as an underdog.

Whatever your obstacles might be, you need to have a compelling enough reason to keep pushing through. When your “why” is strong enough, you’ll figure out a way to succeed. Maybe you’re inspired by your family, and you want to be an example for your children. You could be driven by a deep desire to prove the naysayers wrong.

Regardless of what makes you persist as an underdog, it’s never about yourself. It’s always about empowering other people to reach their goals. You should have a clear idea of who you’re helping. Your mission is to create a movement to give them the tools to thrive. As long as your focus remains on your audience, you’ll find that others are willing to join and collaborate with you on your mission.

“I wanted to lead by example and show my twin boys what it means to be a real man for the family, provide for them, and live a life full of meaning and purpose.” - Zachary Babcock (10:00 - 10:21)

Have you ever felt like the underdog? Is there someone in your family that overcame the odds so their children and grandchildren could have better lives? Take some time this week to think about what lessons you can learn from the underdog success stories in the lives of others and your own.

  • EP45: How Megan Closed More in One Month Than She Did All Last Year

“If you can't think of the number of times you've failed miserably or risked everything, then you probably aren't taking enough action.”

    Megan (10:24-10:36)

Megan generated more revenue than she grossed in 2018 after just two months of coaching. She’s the founder and CEO of Powerhouse Pageantry, a company she started after making her way to being a Miss Nebraska competitor in the Miss America organization, winning the title on her first try at just 20 years of age. She’s a pageant interview expert who understands how entrepreneurship, confidence, and empowerment are the driving forces that help you win in all that you do.

“A coach takes you farther along than you’d go by yourself while speeding up the process. There doesn't have to be as much pain, sorrow, scraping your knees, and getting back up.”

    - Megan (11:31-11:45)

As a coach, Megan knows the importance of having her own coach. Our world is constantly changing, it’s impossible to know everything all the time. Working with a coach can give you the knowledge, skills, and resources you need to adapt to the changing world. It’s easy to get swept away when you face difficult trials in life. Coaching gives you an outside perspective to stay centered on the path towards your goals. Megan didn’t want to feel alone in her journey anymore. She didn’t want to feel like she had to do it all by herself. She’d burned a few times by investing in and being disappointed by other coaching programs. So she wanted to make sure she got what she was looking for in our coaching work together.

    Creating a Community Around You

Women don’t always have models of success around them to serve as examples for their own goals. It’s not just about breaking the glass ceiling as women, we also need to surround ourselves with others who’ve paved the way before us. We can get the mentors we need to understand us and guide us in the right direction. Being around people who work harder or make more money can be motivating and inspiring. Building the right community around yourself is one of the most important ways to reach a new level of growth. We thrive when we’re part of a community full of people who give us a different perspective and helps us achieve our dreams.

“Massive imperfect action is so important in business. It’s what shows that you really want it.” - Janelle Lara (12:11-12:31)

The coaching relationship is a partnership, and you have to establish trust within that partnership. Sometimes your coach has to be a therapist, and sometimes they need to just let you vent. Having an objective resource who can offer the tools you need is a critical part of the growth process. Your coach is equally invested in your success and wants to see you win.

Coaching gives you the courage to get back up every time you fall. It’s the real validation that comes from investing in yourself and being in integrity so that others can invest in you.

  • EP44: How Mia Closed a Multi-Six-Figure Package After a Month of Coaching

“There's going to be things you don't know, and you need someone to help you so that you don't fall into potholes that you don't know are there.”

    Mia Francis-Poulin (21:44-21:54)

Can deciding to work with a coach result in a six-figure business? Mia Francis-Poulin did just that after only six weeks of coaching. She owns R+A Creative Company, a digital marketing company that helps course creators launch their programs. After closing her multi-six-figure deal, she’s completely booked for one-on-one coaching clients for the rest of the year.

But Mia didn’t always have the confidence to think she could reach this milestone. Entrepreneurs take on a lot more responsibility than they anticipate, and things don’t always end up the way we think they’re going to turn out. Being in a difficult place ultimately led Mia to invest in coaching.  She needed someone who’d already succeeded in business and could serve as a guide.

“When someone's ready to bring on a coach, they’ve had enough. They’re going to put their pride to the side and do whatever they have to do to get to where they want to be.” - Janelle Lara (16:43-16:57)

Regardless of your talent and drive, there are going to be gaps in your knowledge that a coach can help you fill. This keeps you from avoiding the many pitfalls that you don’t know are there. Mia understood the importance of sales pages for communicating your value and your offer to the world. She learned how the right sales page can make or break the success of your business.

How to Make Your Message Convert Prospects to Paying Clients

Your sales page should have one clear call to action. Focus on the one thing you want them to do. When you start with the end in mind, you can create the right message that moves readers further along the sales journey.

“Spend time listening to how your audience is talking about the problems they have that you can solve. Your copy needs to reflect their voice.”

    - Mia Francis-Poulin (29:29-29:42)

Your sales page should give readers the information they need to make a buying decision. Match the language that your audience uses, and do your research to learn who your clients are, how they talk about their needs, and the solutions they’re looking for.

Learn to love white space. Don’t cram as much text as you can into your sales page hoping it will persuade readers to say “yes” to your offer. Break up the content so that it’s easier to read and less overwhelming. Make it easy for readers to get the message of your sales page even if they quickly scan through the copy. Use colors, fonts, and other elements to emphasize the most important points in your message. Prioritize clarity over cleverness.

When you focus on the results your audience wants, then it’s much easier to send the message they need to hear in order to choose you over your competitors. Don’t make the mistake of trying to look or sound professional. People want to buy from real people. Communicate in a way that shows others that you’re a real person.

Building a successful six-figure business requires the right guidance. Coaching helped Mia achieve the life and business she dreamed about in only six weeks. She realized she needed help, and she was willing to invest in herself. She understood the importance of communicating a message that attracted the clients she wanted. You can use coaching to develop a success mindset while also improving all aspects of your business. Applying what you learn is the key to lasting success and a fulfilling path of entrepreneurship.

  • EP43: Laura QUADRUPLED her clientele in 60 days

“Courses are great, but there’s no opportunity to be an individual, so you have to figure it out on your own. To start a business, you need more than just a course.”

    Laura Langfitt (12:29-12:45)

After just three coaching calls with me over two months, Laura Langfitt, owner of Unbridled Content Marketing, is on track to earn six figures in 2020. Her story can inspire you to hire a coach so that you can get a bird’s-eye view into your own business.

Laura left her job in the middle of March 2019 to pursue her business, which serves horse business owners who struggle with their online marketing. She creates blogs and social media content in their unique voices so they can easily engage with their audience.

In April, Laura hired me as her coach. She had three regular clients but felt lost in terms of getting new clientele. She was ready to throw herself into her business but didn’t know where to start. So she did everything I told her to do and didn’t hold back. Laura more than doubled her clientele after three calls in just two months.

“When things get tough, you don’t just give up... The smart thing to do is to tell yourself, ‘I don’t know what to do next. I don’t like where I’m at. Let me hire someone who can help me improve.’”

    - Janelle Lara (22:36-23:06)

Most people don’t want to take the financial leap into one-on-one coaching, so they invest in courses instead. Laura discovered that courses provide great material, but she was still trying to make adjustments and figure out what was right for her unique situation. There was no one for her to ask for help.

Laura’s Big-picture Motivation Outside of Herself

Entrepreneurs often talk about things that can sound like they’re driven by ego or money to others. But at the end of the day, there are bigger reasons why we do what we do.

“If you’re making money just to make money, you’re not admitting to yourself that there’s something bigger you want. You haven’t been vulnerable enough with yourself to figure out.”

    - Laura Langfitt (36:37-30:48)

Laura’s primary motivation involves horse rescue and giving kids who can’t afford horses access to them. Her life feels complete when she can take children who can’t afford horseback riding lessons and bring them together with horses that need help.

Laura’s Advice if You’re Nervous About Investing in One-on-One Coaching

Coaching is the right investment if you’re ready to show up and do the work. Every day you spend trying to figure it out on your own can be a day of wasted time, money, and effort. Coaches can’t do it for us, but they offer the invaluable support and help we all need to create the business and life we want.

  • EP42: On Track for $200k This Year with an Email List of 350

“I have always served my audience and my people as if I had a huge audience.”

    Janelle Lara (12:36-12:44)

Sixteen months after becoming the Part-Time CEO, I am on track for a multi-six-figure year. I’ve achieved this with an audience of less than 500. While it is a super tiny micro audience, it is mighty.

I want to share with you three reasons why I was able to experience so much success in my business so quickly.

Reason #1:  I have always served my audience as if I had a huge audience.

From the beginning, I have always shown up with incredible free training and awesome challenges. I’ve never held back or diluted my message. I’ve always showed up with the full force of who I am, what I want to accomplish, and the way I want to serve women. I believed that I could create a community of women building six-figure companies while working part-time.

A lot of people hesitate to go live because they think no one is going to show up, anyway. They’re never going to show up if you don't!

Reason #2:  I focused on the depth of my relationship with my audience, not the breadth.

Many gurus say that you need to have a huge email list. They say that conversion rates are only 1%, so you have to make sure you have thousands of people on your email list so you can build a six-figure company.

    I disagree.

“My conversion rates are 10%, and it's because I do something really simple. I talk to my audience.”  -Janelle Lara (16:26-16:36)

I create authentic relationships with my audience. There are several different ways that I do that.

    • I present calls to action in the emails I send because I want a response.
    • I give free customized and personalized advice.
    • I show up for them, not as some CEO with a corporate vibe, but as a millennial woman in her 20s who is also a mother, a wife, and a person.

If you want to learn more, join the Small Audience, Big Profits challenge. Spend 30 days learning and applying the techniques I used to grow my business quickly, and efficiently.

Reason # 3: I invested in mindset coaching.

We all have subconscious beliefs that are holding us back from achieving what we want. We have subconscious beliefs around having to work hard to make money, that money isn’t easy to come by, and that it’s holy to be poor.

Or, we wonder, what will people think? What will our friends think if I am successful?

“The what-will-people-think concern is a very real concern. You just have to decide that your big-picture dream is more important than other people’s opinions of you.”  -Janelle Lara (20:09-20:19)

Our dreams need to be bigger than other people’s opinions of us, but that can be hard to overcome because it’s often on a subconscious level. Hiring a mindset coach was crucial for me. It made all the difference.

I dig deeper into these points and share additional information about my unique method and formula in a new challenge called Small Audience, Big Profits launching August 14. Join me if you’re interested in learning my unique formula for growing a 10x industry-standard conversion rate.
