August 17, 1992. Waukegan, Illinois. While babysitting two children, 11-year old Holly Staker is sexually assaulted and brutally murdered inside their apartment. Two months later, a suspect named Juan Rivera is brought in for questioning and confesses to the murder after four straight days of interrogation. He is subsequently convicted and receives a life sentence, but no physical evidence links Rivera to the crime and the veracity of his confession is called into question. After Rivera serves 19 years in prison, DNA evidence eventually links Holly’s death to another murder… but could another innocent person also be serving time in prison for that particular crime? June 25, 1983. Jefferson County, Montana. While attending a picnic with her family in Helena National Forest, four-year old Nyleen Kay Marshall goes off to play with some other children until she vanishes without a trace. An extensive search of the forest fails to find her, but other kids report having seen an unidentified man in a jogging suit speaking to Nyleen shortly before she went missing. Over two years later, the authorities receive a series of anonymous letters and phone calls from a man who claims to be raising Nyleen, but he is never identified and Nyleen cannot be found. Was Nyleen Kay Marshall actually the victim of a stranger abduction and, if so, who was responsible? On this week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly”, we explore a disturbing unsolved missing children’s case which has featured a number of surprising twists and turns these past four decades. The latest episode in our Patreon Summer Sampler: April 20, 1989. Circle, Montana. While driving on the wrong side of a rural highway, 37-year old Patricia Meehan gets into a collision with another car. After staring blankly at the vehicle’s driver, Patricia walks out onto the prairie and disappears. During the next few months, there would be numerous sightings of a disoriented-woman resembling Patricia. This leads to speculation that the trauma of the car crash caused Patricia to develop amnesia and forget who she was, but she is ultimately never found.Patreon.com/julesandashleyPatreon.com/thetrailwentcold
