This was a movie that took us by surprise in the middle of the year and it became one of the movies we slotted for this discussion once we saw the trailer. Gareth Edwards describes this movie as, “A mix of Blade Runner and Apocalypse Now.” Troy takes us on an unexpected detour into a discussion of Jai Courtney’s mid-career Hollywood “it” guy. This week’s episode is a Deep Thoughts on Shallow Subjects where we draft our top 10 Western movies. This comes on the heels (spurs?) of our Late Nights at Blockbuster treatment for Tombstone. We return to Middle-Earth for a Late Nights at Blockbuster on the second entry in the The Hobbit Trilogy, The Desolation o Smaug. Troy brings up a well-known name in Great Names in Casting because it’s just too good to ignore. He was also incredibly disappointed in the internet. We said we weren’t going to be too negative and then fell into a long list of plot holes and quibbles. #sorrynotsorry

Saving Private Ryan

This week we are heading back to 1998 and one of the greatest rip-off in the history of the Oscars. We’re talking about Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks and way more people than you remember being in this movie that you actually know. We enjoy placing all the members of that great cast into their proper places amongst our categories and have one of the least funny Drax award sessions of all time.

Our newest Late Nights at Blockbuster is celebrating the 10th anniversary of THE Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Xavier joins us for the whole episode this time to get the teen audience perspective. Troy quickly forgets the move title in the intro but we were able to get things back on track. We left the best for last with an interesting discussion during, "Whose movie is it?"

Our newest episode is a Late Nights at Blockbuster on Enemy of the State. While this was a very successful movie as far as box office, it didn’t really stay in the public conscious. TMNT III and 2001: A Space Odyssey catch some strays in the middle of this pod. As he always does, Byers brings a Friends guest star into Recognize My Face. We also discuss how Anna Gunn can’t escape being cast in unlikeable roles.
