We thought about doing a Top 5 on Christopher Nolan movies, but seeing as how he has 10 major releases we figured it would be more worthwhile to rank them. It goes without saying that SPOILERS abound in this episode. If you haven’t watched all of these films, we would recommend you do so before listening. Except for Insomnia, we don’t spoil anything in that movie. Byers compares Interstellar to Up at one point. 

Goofs: Troy incorrectly stated that Memento was the only R rated movie from Nolan because Insomnia was also rated R. Troy was wrong that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has taken a reprieve from acting in movies.

Concluding our run on Batman topics, we rank all of the theatrical release Batman movies one through 10, one of which may be lost to time for some. Since we went through deep dives on The Dark Knight trilogy in the last few episodes we tried not to repeat ourselves and quickly moved on to those that had not already been discussed. There are few agreements on the bottom and top of the rankings but our middle rankings are pretty different. We didn't include the Ben Affleck movies as those are more Justice League movies.

We couldn't pass up the opportunity to discuss our favorite villains from Batman's rogues gallery. We opened up the choices to all their versions in movies, TV, comics, and video games. While most of these are characters from the movies, Troy leaned a little more towards video games and Batman: The Animated Series while Byers drew from the Gotham television series.

Dark Knight Rises

Our month (or more) of Batman continues as we wrap up Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and discuss the good, the bad and the confusing of this last chapter for Christian Bale as the Dark Knight.

We continue our Late Nights at Blockbuster treatment of The Dark Knight Trilogy. This week focuses on the second movie, The Dark Knight, which is among our favorite movies. Because we love it so much, we went on a little too long with favorite scenes and favorite quotes. There is discussion about how Nolan approaches violence in this movie and seemingly all his movies thereafter. Recognize my face touches on an actor that has by far the most actor credits on IMDB, and it’s not who you would think. Troy does a terrible job of explaining why he doesn’t like Maggie Gyllenhaal’s performance.

Goofs:  Troy couldn’t think of the Fulton Recovery System when discussing the Lau scene.

We are kicking off an entire month of Batman discussions with Batman Begins, the first part of the Christopher Nolan trilogy. So make sure you’ve been inoculated against any weaponized hallucinogens, and join us as we talk about Batman voice, witty banter with your butler, and the birth of the new age of comic book movies.
