Deep Thoughts on Shallow Subjects

1998 Movie Draft

We’re taking our love of movies and our love for drafting and putting our hands together on this one.

We go back and forth picking our favorite movies that came out in 1998, a year full of some great movies, some guilty pleasures, and several movies that we will be diving deeper into later this year.

Late Nights at Blockbuster

Inception

We are starting the year off with one of our favorites, it is Christopher Nolan showing off all of his skills and taking us into a dream, within a dream, within a dream…..or is it all in a dream? Does the top keep spinning? We offer up our thoughts and questions about 2010’s Inception.

Deep Thoughts on Shallow Subjects

The last podcast of the year is dedicated to our Top 5 lists of 2022. We discuss our favorite movies, TV, and sports moments that happened this year and mention those that we are looking forward to next year. Byers loses his faith in humanity as we discuss Banshees of Inisherin (spoilers abound).

Goofs: After further review, Troy cheated and his number 1 pick for TV did not debut in 2022. Troy was also wrong, despite his “seemingly” clarifier, on the Warriors barely getting into the playoffs. They were a 3 seed and went 53-29.

Corner Booth at Rex's

We discuss the new Lord of the Rings show on Amazon Prime. We remain spoiler free until the 26 minute mark. We talk the highs, the lows, and what we are looking forward to in the next season. Do dwarven really have beards or not? There are so many people involved in this show we couldn't even acknowledge all of the regulars. We were a little punchy so there might be a little too much middle school humor at the beginning of the episode.

Late Nights at Blockbuster

Home Alone 2

We did it again!

We’re headed to Florida for Christmas…oops we’re in New York.

Oh well, let’s order lots of room service, eat pizza in a limo and befriend a pigeon lady.

We even discuss just how many times over Marv and Harry should be dead.

So come along as we discuss this Christmas sequel classic – you can trust us, we only hire the finest idiots in New York.

Late Nights at Blockbuster

We are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Hoot twice like a barn owl if you get into trouble!  We discuss the extended edition of the movie similar to our Lord of the Rings discussion. However, Byers asks if we can get a better edit of the movie rather than extended editions. We might be the only podcast to compare this movie to the Fast and the Furious franchise.

Goofs: Leonard Nimoy sang the song titled “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” but he wasn’t involved in the animated version of The Hobbit from 1977. The Company stays in Rivendell for a fortnight to be sure they are there for the moon runes.

Another "quarter" of the season is in the books, so we update our rankings.

Better Than Perfect – Friday Night Lights

We go long – like really long – like Santiago going deep – as we talk about the TV series “Friday Night Lights”

Corner Booth at Rex's

Our newest Corner Booth at Rex’s is on Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever. We keep it spoiler-free up until the 21 minute mark. We run through our likes and dislikes along with the state of MCU phase 4.

Goofs: It had been so long that we had a 8.5 that we forgot that 8.5 is Byers goes to Tucanos not 8 for the score. Byers is correct that we gave Spider-Man: No Way Home a 9.5 so nothing has been a 10 so far. We forgot to mention that this was the last movie of phase 4.
