Our newest Corner Booth at Rex’s is on the newest MCU entry, Thunderbolts! Get ready for a ton of comparisons to Guardians of the Galaxy because they are warranted. Troy meanders his way through a painful example of how the Thunderbolts are like the Celtics as if he were Bill Simmons. We also spend some time on the incredible score by Son Lux, even though we forgot to mention them by name.

Despicable Me

Here’s the plan. We watch the movie. We take notes on themovie. We talk about the movie. We sit on the toilet…wait what? Who did this – excuse us for just one second….ok, we’re back and we’ve got all the fart guns, the fluffy unicorns, and plenty of boogie robots for our trip to super silly fun land. We might set a new record for longest tangent within the first five minutes and we definitely vent plenty of parental angst over some of the things we endured watching with our kids.

Our newest Late Nights at Blockbuster celebrates the 10th anniversary of Avengers: Age of Ultron. We discuss why this is seen as the least of all the Avengers movies but still good in its own way. There are plenty of Stark quips to run through due to the continued presence of Joss Whedon as writer/director. We also discuss how well the it has held up by all of the movies and TV shows that build on this movie.

Our names are Troy and Byers, creators of the Phileo Podcast,teammates on a 2007 rec basketball team, attempting to be loyal followers of the true King, Jesus Christ, each of us father to a teen and a preteen, husband to an embarrassed wife (if they read this), and we will talk about Gladiator, in this life and possibly the next – because it’s a really great movie, and we love it, and we definitely spent some time patting ourselves on the back for waiting this long to do it, but we just keep saying, not yet….not yet.

What will you do with a new Late Nights at Blockbuster? Will you fight? We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the movie that all pastors love to quote, Braveheart! Much likeMel Gibson our Scottish accents will be going in and out when you least expect it. We also can’t stop giggling at the ridiculous names in this move so be prepared for a lot of that. We spent a little time on the historical accuracy of the movie but didn’t beat the dead horse like others have over the years. Byers takes another opportunity to trash The Banshees of Inisherin.

They’re all played by Chevy Chase in the movie Fletch – and this week we’re here to talk about all the aliases and all the jokes we didn’t get as kids that have us cackling now in this 80s classic. So order a steak sandwich and a steak sandwich, charge it to the Underhills, and have it delivered to where your mouth is going to be and join us for the 40th anniversary of Fletch, and don’t forget the ball bearings, it’s ball bearings these days.

Similar to the golden snitch opening at the close, we've made it to the end of our time with the Harry Potter series. Our latest Late Nights at Blockbuster combines The Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2 but we managed to keep ourselves in check with a normal runtime (for us). We explain why we combined them and go through a pretty lengthy discussion on what these movies were missing compared to the books. Byers again confronts his fear of snakes and Troy tries to help him overcome that fear by renaming Nagini.

We have this condition you see. It’s where we watch moviesover and over again. And then we talk about them all the time. And especially if it’s one of our absolute favorites we might talk to you about it again – you see we can’t remember if we’ve told you about it, and how great it is, and how much we like it. So we need to be sure. Because we’re sure about some things. The way the color changes, how this movie breaks your brain, and how much we enjoy the work of Christopher Nolan. But we just can’t ever be sure if we’vetold someone else about it. So here we are this week telling you all about Memento.
