My guest for this episode is Sam Morris - an ultra-endurance athlete who has moved away from the corporate life.
He has more than two decades as a valuation, finance, and private equity professional and has completed some of the world's most gruelling ultra-endurance challenges & expeditions, including the famous Marathon Des Sable (a 250km self-sufficient footrace across the Sahara Desert) and a 5,000km cross-Atlantic row. Now, he's using his unique skillset and experience of being a corporate professional and ultra-endurance athlete to help individuals and corporations unlock their highest potential.
During our chat, we talked about the trigger for him to start participating in ultra-endurance events, the preparation involved and some of the challenges he's faced. We then discuss the mammoth feat of rowing across the Atlantic and how being on the boat for 38 days with 2 other people was a mindset challenge and how he dealt with it. Sam also gives his tips for people who are comfortable in their current situation but want something a little different in their lives. In this episode I focus on fear, a chain at level 3, and something that often holds us back from taking action, or trying new things.
At level 3 the chains are about the images we create in our head and I share a few stories and examples of having the mental image but breaking through fear and taking the action.
I also present a quick exercise we can all do to start addressing our fears and it starts with recognising what they are.
If we can break free of our fears we unlock the potential to move more quickly towards our goals, dreams and visions.
