If right now is enough, and if it's not better once we acheive our goals, what's the point of setting goals at all?

In this episode I share why goal setting is a spiritual practice and a path to growth and living our purpose.

The paradox is being able to set goals while silultaneously being unattached to them. This is why it's essential to enjoy the projess and find joy in the journey.

On of the things I'm working on is embracing the paradox of going after goals WHILE letting go of my attachment to the outcome. This has been personally very challenging and recently I made a breakthrough during one of my coaching sessions when I posed these 3 questions to myself:

1) What will be different when I achieve the goal?

2) What will be exactly the same?

3) Why is what I have now not enough?

Today I'm getting on my soapbox to talk about quitting. It breaks my heart when people decide to give up on thier dreams because of past failures. They think because they haven't acheived something yet, it's not possible for them. They make their failed attempts mean that it wasn't meant to be, or they aren't capable. Your past has no bearing on your future, unless you let it. When you create an identity and stories around why you're not there yet, you keep proving it true. I believe that your desires are meant for you. If you can see it, you can achieve it. So give yourself permission to believe. Trust that it is yours. It's not a matter of it, but when. Let go of the timeline and keep going.

As humans we're hardwired to seek approval, be liked and avoid rejection. Unfortunately that sometimes leads to people-pleasing and not showing up as our ourselves. We overly try to manage ourselves to try to control other people's thoughts and feelings towards us. The problem is that rarely works (and isn't a good use of our efforts - we can barely manage our OWN thoughts and feelings!).

In this episode I share a few simple shifts to help you show up in relationships in a way that feels good. These tiny tweaks will allow you to create better relationships with more authentic connection and real intimacy - which is what we all want.

My favorite question to ask my clients when they're going through a challenging situation or if they are working through trauma of the past is: "How did this happen FOR you?". 

The way we can find joy in our suffering is through creating meaning. You can change the past by re-writing the story in a way that empowers you. The only way the past affects you in this moment is in how you choose to think about it. Make it a practice to look for the good and mine the lessons learned so you will grow from challenging events of the past. Make your brain look for ways you're better because of it, not in spite of it.
